Whittier: "He was a shipjoiner in Batterymarch Street, near Hallowell's shipyard and resided in Milk Street. He was prominent in town affairs and held various offices. For 29 years he was member of Boston fire department and for a numberr of years held the position of captain. He served in the Revolutionary War as captain of company of artificers in Col. Richard Gridley's regiment of artillery from 20 Jun 1775 to 31 Dec 1779. In 1777 he was chosen one of the committee to enforce the law against monopolies, and in 1779 he was one of the committee appoointed to prevent people from going out of town to buy provisions. He purchased of the heirs the estate left by his father, and on 15 Apr. 1782 and 15 Oct. 1784 bought additional land in Theatre Alley. He was most prominent in the Masonic order; was made a member of the Lodge of St. Andrew 18 Sept. 1760, and on 30 Nov. 1772 was elected Worshipful Master, but served only one year. For a number of years he was a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons of Massachusetts and took an active part in their deliberations. He was one of the grantees when the Green Dragon estate was purchased for the Lodge of St. Andrew, 20 July 1784. He was a member of the Sons of Liberty and of the Boston Tea Party (1773) and was one of the guards on the Dartmouth when the tea was thrown overboard...He died at [Boston] 8 Oct. 1792..."

Thomas Urann was a volunteer guard on the “Dartmouth” on the night of the Boston tea protest. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge of St. Andrew in 1760 and was master of this lodge for two years. He was a shipwright in Batterymarch Street near the Hallowell shipyard and a surveyor, or sealer, of woods. He achieved the rank of Captain in the Revolutionary War and later died in 1791.
