"In the absence of definite records, there is some question whether this Sally Ann belongs in this family. Some of descendants of John and Mary think she was one of the daughters, others place her in another Spencer family.
There is a tradition that John and Mary had a daughter Mary, who was drowned in infancy. As Mary Spencer who was born in 1806, was named for her, she was probably one of the older children."¹
