| Biography | "Robert the Haystack"was aged 13 years and was a schoolboy living at home with his widowed mother Ann at 48 Handbridge, which was the Grocer's shop she ran with his brother, Henry ( Harry ). When Robert became a freeman of the City of Chester on 18 June 1910, he was described as a Hay Dealer of 58 Handbridge. In 1887 at the time of the birth of his son Edward, he was described as a trusser, being a person who bundles hay or straw. [:TAB:] This must be the Robert Snelson described as a hay merchant in Maria Snelson ( nee Priddey )'s will ( 1925 ). In the will, he ( Robert ) is described as her brother-in-law, and therefore presumably the brother of her husband, Henry Snelson ( d. 1901 ). [:CR:]. |
