... and whereas James Critchley has had notice to appear but hath not nor shown any sufficient cause why he should not be adjudged to be the Father of the said Bastard child ..." and so he was ordered to pay the Overseers of Whiston one pound re the actual birth of the child and also fifteen shillings to cover expenses incurred in securing his apprehension ... plus two shillings weekly …

... and also Mary Mutch to pay two shillings and sixpence a week to the Overseers to cover ongoing maintenance of the child "in case she shall not nurse and take care of the child herself".

This is very interesting as you can see, William gets married in 1853 and has no problem in recording that his farther was James Critchley, file cutter.
His son Joseph Mutch was born about 1857.
His daughter Mary Mutch was born about 1859 in Altrincham.
His son William Mutch was born in 1861 in Altrincham.
His daughter Emma Mutch was born about 1864 in Altringham.
His son John Mutch was born about 1866 in Altincham.
His son Henry Mutch was born about 1868 in Rochdale, Lancashire.
His daughter Ellen Mutch was born about 1871 in Rochdale.
