BiographyWitches Burned at the Stake !

Below is a story related to another Elisabeth Stubbs, who is related to this Elizabeth (b. ca 1786).

According to the pedigree of the Fallowes family in Earwaker's " East Cheshire, Past and Present " on page 362 of Volume II the story goes

I find it stated in a MS at Capesthorne that NELL, NAN and BESS STUBBS, being a mother and two daughters, were hanged at Chester for bewitching to death Mrs. Elizabeth Furnival, daughter to Mr. Jo Fallowes of Fallowes Hall, father-in-law of Thomas Acton .

According to Stephen King, these three ladies were related to Elizabeth, and thus he ( Stephen ) is descended from the kinsmen of the accusers ( the Actons ) as well as the victims ( the Stubbs ) ; a remarkable set of circumstances !
