NoteWilliam could not write - he left his mark on the marriage banns document in 1794 as did his bride, Elizabeth Tatlock.

He was 36 or so when he died, so I have calculated that he was born circa 1747. Then I looked up baptisms in the area - it looks like the nearest is in Ormskirk or Latham (that might be the current Lytham St Anne's) and that's Henry Roby & Lydia - and further evidence is that this works with the birth of Lydia Roby in 1777 who William Makin.

In 1774, on 22nd November, there is the birth of William Roby, son of Roger Roby (collier) & Alice

Whereas I have found a record of a burial of a William Roby in 1810, there is no indication of his age - which would strengthen the conviction that this is indeed William Roby born 1774. So at this stage I am not 100% convinced. I need to get over to St Mary's in Prescot myself to look at the graves.

I am not convinced that William Roby & Elizabeth Tatlock are the parents of William Roby who married Ann Foster.
NoteThe original record of marriage banns is held in the Cheshire Record Office and has been indexed by the LDS Church and published (familyserach.org). BaptismHe was baptised on 9 December 1774 in St Mary the Virgin, Prescot, The original is not easy to read as there are some ink smudges but it looks like he was born on November 22nd and the christenening was a few weeks later on 9 th December 1774. The parents names are clear "Roger Roby collier & his wife Elizabeth".

Main Events

MarriageHermann Billung was married.1
ResidenceHe resided Hermann (died 27 March 973, Quedlinburg) was a Saxon nobleman and the oldest well-known member of the House of Billung.

Hermann's parents are unknown. Hermann is generally counted as the first Billung duke of Saxony, but his exact position is unclear. By 953, King Otto I, who was also duke of Saxony, was entrusting more and more of his authority in Saxony to Hermann during his absences. However, Hermann was never named as duke in royal documents. Instead, he is named as military leader, count, and margrave. His son Bernard inherited and strengthened his father's position and managed to be recognized as duke.

Hermann's activities were centered around the northeastern borders of the Kingdom; he fought against the Slavic tribes of the Redarians, Abotrites, and Wagrians. He had property around Lüneburg and founded the monastery of St. Michael in that city.
