| Biography | The photograph that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday 3 September 1988 showed Archibald Bax and his cousins Wallace Peter Snelson and Connie Skey Snelson, plus their friend Amy Patterson. The picture was taken about 1907. Evidently, the name Skey came from a friend of the family, and is of no family derivation. Connie was a frien of Alice Mackenzie, daughter of Charles and Matilda Mackenzie who married in Broken Hill. Alice and Connioe met at the Cobar School. Sometimes on saturdays, they went to the movies to the picture show that was owned by Connie's father. It was also used for roller skating, boxing and wrestling. I was absoultely delighted to meet her at the opening of the restored Bark School at Eurunderee on 1st October 1989, and then on the next day when we shared a pot of tea at the home of her niece, Joan Betty Snelson in Wellington. What a great lady. She lived at Strathfield in Sydney before moving to a retirement village in Wellington. [:CR:]. |
