The ancestry presented here for Samuel Taylor is from the History of the Town of Middlefield, Massachusetts, by Smith and Smith, and is tentative at best. The authors say that "considerable difficulty has been encountered" tracing his ancestry, and note that other sources have different information. They also say that Samuel was "probably" the son of Samuel Taylor and Sarah Bagg, and that "it appears probable" that the Samuel Taylor who married Sarah Bagg was the son of John Taylor and Elizabeth Spencer.2
