He began working for a local newspaper in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish, in 1907. He then joined a paper in Connersville, Fayette Co., Indiana, where he learned to operate linotype machines. He soon moved back to Louisiana, working for the New Orleans Item in New Orleans, Orleans Parish. He didn't like the big city, however, and in 1911 moved to Jonesboro, Craighead Co., Arkansas, joining The Sun as the paper's only linotype operator.9 He remained there the rest of his career, and until about 1945 was also head machinist. He retired on 11 February 1958 after suffering a minor stroke.2

Arthur Robert Morse (1904-1981). From his application for a Seaman's Protection Certificate, 1934.
Arthur Robert Morse was born on 9 March 1904 in Galveston, Galveston Co., Texas.3,2,1 He married Mary Catherine Frances, daughter of Harris C. Frances and Claudia B. Thomason, on 22 May 1937 in Maury Co., Tennessee.4 He died on 18 July 1981 at age 77.5,6 He was buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Giles Co., Tennessee.5
In July 1921, when he was 17, his father filed suit against him in county court in Galveston, Galveston Co., Texas, for lunacy. A few days later, although the court had found that he was "not of sound mind," he was released from custody when his father withdrew the suit.7,8 The same sequence of events occurred about a year later, in May 1922.9
On 29 December 1921 he was stabbed near his home in Galveston by Michael Feigle, age 15, who was arrested. He suffered a deep wound near his kidney, and was in serious condition the next day at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, but survived.10
He may have served briefly in the Army Air Service. A December 1923 news article says that his mother reported that he was then stationed with the air service at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas.11 However, in the 1930 census he's listed as not being a veteran of the U.S. military.12
He worked for a time as a merchant seaman. He was enumerated on 1 April 1930 in the Merchant Seamen Schedule as an ordinary seaman on the S.S. Eldena, docked in Galveston. He gave the address of his next of kin as 1016 Ave. B in Galveston.13 He's also listed that same month in the April 1930 census living with his parents at that same address, and working as a house painter.12 On 8 August 1934, in Galveston, he applied for a seaman's protection certificate (the equivalent of a passport for merchant seamen), and reported that he last served on the Chester Vallay [sic].14
He and his wife Mary are listed in the 1940 census in Galveston, as renters in the home of Arthur's brother Walter and his family.15 He was then working as a painter, but when he registered for the World War II draft in 1942 he was working for the Pan American Refining Corporation in Texas City, Galveston Co.2 He and Mary are listed in 1950 in Giles Co., Tennessee. Mary's brother F. Butler Francis was living with them.16 Arthur was again listed as a painter.

Walter Samuel Morse (1911-1979). From his application for a Seaman's Protection Certificate, 1930.
Walter Samuel Morse was born on 19 June 1911 in Galveston, Galveston Co., Texas.1,3,4 (His birth date is from a delayed birth certificate filed by his mother in 1930, and is consistent with his birth date in other documents. It should be noted, though, that there's another delayed birth certificate filed by Louise Ahl (date unknown), that lists his birth date, apparently erroneously, as 27 June 1910.)5 He married first Hazel Victoria Carlson, daughter of Axel W. Carlson and Estelle Moses, on 16 September 1930 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Galveston.6,7 He married second Linnie Mary Reeves, daughter of Willie Reeves and Laura Gray, on 11 December 1937 in Harris Co., Texas.8,9 He married third Ruby Lorene Hinson on 23 March 1945 in Galveston Co.10,11 He died on 13 July 1979 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan, Brazos Co., Texas, at age 68 from a heart attack.2 He was buried on 16 July 1979 at Grace Memorial Park (Garden of Devotion, lot 48, space 10) in Hitchcock, Galveston Co.2,12,13
On 10 February 1930 he applied in Galveston, Galveston Co., Texas, for a seaman's protection certificate (the equivalent of a passport for merchant seamen), saying that he'd be working as a deckboy on the Steadfast.3 About two months later, in April 1930, he was enumerated in the census living with his parents in Galveston and working as a house painter.14 He later worked for twenty years as a painter with the American Oil Company refinery in Texas City, Galveston Co.12
He's listed in the 1940 census in Galveston Co. with his second wife Linnie, along with his son Walter Jr. from his first marriage, and her son Aubrey Tucker from her first marriage.9
In 1950 he's listed with his third wife Ruby in Texas City, along with her son Dean Duncan from her first marriage.11

Glen Otis Credice Bryant1,2,3,4

b. 31 July 1897, d. 2 August 1964
FatherWilliam H. Bryant5 b. Nov 1867
MotherEdith M. Clawson5 b. Oct 1878
Glen Otis Credice Bryant was born on 31 July 1897 in Montpelier, Blackford Co., Indiana.6 He married first Lillian Anna Morse, daughter of Eugene Parham Morse and Catherine Theresa McAdam, on 29 March 1919 in Galveston Co., Texas.1 He married second Rose Marie Maloof between 1958 and 1964 (see below). He drowned, possibly after a heart attack, on 2 August 1964 at Clear Lake in Lake Co., California, at age 67, while trying to free his boat's anchor about forty feet off shore.2,7 He was buried on 6 August 1964 at Golden Gate National Cemetery (Sect. S, Site 1867) in San Bruno, San Mateo Co., California.8
The identification of Glen Bryant's second wife as Rose Maloof is based on the following evidence. First, Glen's obituary names a surviving wife Rose Marie.2 Second, the 1962 city directory for Vallejo, California, lists Glen O. C. Bryant, a rigger at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, with a wife Rose M., living at 1209 Maple Ave., and the 1966 directory lists Rose M. Bryant as the widow of Glen O. at the same address.9 Rose Mazzoni Bryant's obituary lists her at the same address, and names sons Daniel, Donald, and Fred.10 Finally, Daniel A. Mazzoni married Rose M. Maloof on 25 September 1921.11 Daniel died in 1945, and his obituary names his wife Rose, and sons Donald, Freddie, and Daniel Mazzoni, the same names as in Rose's obituary.12 Taken together this shows that Rose Marie Maloof married first Daniel Mazzoni, and second Glen O. C. Bryant.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War I, enlisting on 23 July 1917.4 He was stationed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Solano Co., California, from July 1917 to October 191713, then briefly at Quantico, Virginia,14, and finally in Galveston, Galveston Co., Texas, from November 1917 to March 1919.15 He received his formal honorable discharge on 29 March 1919, his wedding day.4
He and his first wife Lillian are listed in Kern Co., California, in the 1920 census16, in Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., California, in 193017, and in Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo Co., California, in 1940.18 During that time he was listed in the census as working in the oil industry, as a tool dresser in 1920, rotary man in 1930, and derrick man in 1940.
He and Lillian moved to Vallejo about 194319,2, and are listed there at 1209 Maple Ave. in the 1950 census.20 He was then working as a rigger at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo.
