He was a representative for Southwestern Drug Corporation before moving to Galveston, where he owned and ran the Tremont Drug Store. When it was lost in a fire, he began working at the Broadway Drug Store.2

He is listed in the 1900 census living with his mother in Caswell Twp., Calhoun Co., Arkansas,, and working as a truck driver for a lumber company.1
When he registered for the World War I draft in September 1918, he was living in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and working there as a machinist in planing mill owned by the Victoria Lumber Co.3, while his wife Mary, and presumably their children, were living in Haughton, Bossier Parish, Louisiana.3 In 1920 he was living as a boarder with the family of Bascom F. Owen in Emerson, Columbia Co., Arkansas. He's listed in the census as married, but his wife Mary is not listed with him, and she has not been found in the census.4
He's listed with his second wife Minnie in Brister Twp., Columbia Co., Arkansas, in the 1930 census, along with his children Elizabeth and Morris [sic] from his first marriage.8 By 1940 they had moved to Kingsland, Cleveland Co., Arkansas.10 He's listed in Johnson Twp., Union Co., Arkansas, in 195011, while Minnie is listed as a patient at the Arkansas Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Booneville, Logan Co., Arkansas.12 He was working as a foreman in a plaining mill in 1930 and 19408,10, and as a lumber company moulderman in 1950.11
At some point before September 1918 he lost the ends of four fingers on his right hand. (Possibly in a work-related accident?)3
