Willard Chamberlin was born on 1 April 1888 in Duffau, Erath Co., Texas.2,3,4 He married Alice Louise Tharp, daughter of Henry Neal Tharp and Lilly Perminter, on 24 September 1933 in Dallas Co., Texas.5 He died on 25 February 1966 at home in Highland Park, Dallas Co., at age 77 from heart failure.2 He was buried on 28 February 1966 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Dallas Co.2
His family moved to Stephenville, Erath Co., Texas, about 18966, and he graduated from John Tarleton College (now Tarleton State University) in Stephenville.7 He is listed there in the 1910 census living with his father and stepmother, and was then working as a merchant, probably for his father.8
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I, enlisting on 11 August 1917 in Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas, as a private first class.9 He reported for duty about a month later10 as a member of the 114th Ordnance Depot Co. at Camp Funston, Kansas. He was promoted to sergeant on 15 October 1917, then to sergeant first class on 25 January 1918. He was transferred to Camp Hancock, Georgia, on 28 May 1918, where he was part of the Provisional Ordnance Training Camp, then joined the 34th Provisional Ordnance Depot Co. on 11 July 1918, and the Ordnance Department at Large on 23 August 1918. He served overseas from 31 July 1918 to 21 May 1919, and was promoted to ordnance sergeant on 3 February 1919. He was discharged on 28 May 19199, and came home on the USS Orizaba, leaving St. Nazaire, France on 11 June 1919, bound for Camp Hill, Newport News, Virginia.11
At the time of his enlistment he didn't plan on returning to Texas. Instead, he intended to travel to Spain to learn the language and study the culture there, then go to Central or South America to sell U.S. products.10 He hasn't been found in the 1920 census, but he apparently changed his plans. He moved from his home in Stephenville to Dallas about 1921, where he worked for Shelton Chevrolet for a time, then opened his own company, City Chevrolet.4 He was later joined by his brother Frank, and the company expanded into an auto and loan firm named Chamberlin Brothers. Their brother Cecil, and Neal Tharp (the brother of Willard's wife Louise), were also part of the company, at least for a time.12
In 1930, before his marriage, he was living with his brother Frank in Highland Park, a Dallas suburb.13 He's listed in Highland Park with his wife Louise in the 1940 and 1950 censuses.14,15
In late October 1936 he became critically ill, and underwent major surgery on 30 October. A news article a week later said that he was improving and would "soon be entirely out of danger."16 Another news article, in September 1944, reported that he had recently had a heart attack.17

Frank Albert Chamberlin was born on 11 February 1894 in Duffau, Erath Co., Texas.1 He married Gladys M. Fulcher, daughter of William J. Fulcher and Minnie J. Thomas, on 6 September 1922 in Erath Co.3 He was found dead on 21 October 1971 at his home in Highland Park, Dallas Co., Texas, at age 77 from heart disease.4 He was buried on 23 October 1971 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Dallas Co.4
He was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War I, on 19 September 1917, initially as part of the 165th Depot Brigade. He was made a corporal on 23 October 1917, and sergeant on 29 May 1918. On 11 September 1918 he was transferred to Central Infantry Officer Training School at Camp MacArthur, Texas. He was discharged 2 1/2 months later at the end of the war, on 26 November 1918.5
He and his wife Gladys moved to Dallas Co., Texas, in 1928.6 They are listed at 4528 Lorraine in Highland Park, a Dallas suburb, in the censuses from 1930 to 19507,8,9, and remained there the rest of their lives.4,10 Frank's brother Willard was living with them in 19307, and they may have had a maid for a time. In 1940 Ada Moore was living at the same address, in the rear of the house paying $10/month in rent, and listed in the census as a maid for a private family.8
He joined Willard's auto dealership in Dallas, and the company later moved into the auto financing business as Chamberlin Brothers. Their brother Cecil was also part of the company, at least for a time.11 He retired in 1962.6
