     Charles Leslie Burwell of PO Box 145Asquith was conscripted on 11 June 1918 at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in the 106th draft joining the 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment. He was a married farmer with no previous military experience. He was described as being 5' 7 1/4" with a ruddy complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. On his conscription papers he listed his next-of-kin as his wife, Agnes Isabel Burwell of Box 145, Asquith. He was assigned regimental number 277734.⁴
     On 15 August 1918, at Liverpool, Lancashire, England, he arrived in England on the H.M.T. Cassandra and was taken on strength (TOS) to the 15th Reserve battalion. On June 4, 1919 he embarked aboard the S.S. Aquitania for Canada, landing at Halifax on June 20th.⁴ Pte. Charles Leslie Burwell ended military service as part of general demobilization on 23 June 1919 at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He had served in the Saskatchewan Regiment in England..
