The following newspaper article appeared in in the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002) in Eganville in Ontario originally published 11 January 1952 :
Golden Lake Man Believed Dead Now Found Alive
An interesting story is that of Joseph Ohlman, a native of Golden Lake, who was believed by his relatives to have been killed in an airplane accident many years ago and who quite recently has been reported to be alive and well. This word was received by his brother, Michael Ohlman, of Golden Lake, from a nephew, Lawrence Ohlman, who resides at Brent. It was long believed that Joseph Ohlman had met his death in a plane crash somewhere in the Red Deer Lake district in the period of the early rush of prospectors into that gold centre many years ago, and thought the body was never found or the report definitely confirmed, it was taken as a fact, nothing further being heard from or about him, and he was regarded by members of his family as dead. He has now been located at Hudson, Ont., has reached the age of 84 years, still rugged and in good health, and is planning to visit his Golden Lake relatives next summer.12

Ernestine was born on 7 November 1850 in Germany according to the 1901 census.4 Alternatively, she was born on 17 November 1850 in Ricknow, Brandenburg, Prussia/Preußen (modern Germany), according to her obituary. Note that her gravemarker gives her birth year as 1860 which means she would have been married at the age of 11. I presume this was an error on the part of the person ordering or inscribing the gravestone since both the birth and death dates are 10 years off.3,5 or circa 1852 in Germany age 39 in the 1891 census.6 Alternatively, she was born in 1860 on her gravestone.2 Ernestine married Joseph Ohlman in 1871.3,2,4,5,6 She died circa 20 February 1920.1,7
The following selected information is extracted from her obituary. Survivor(s): Amelia Kurtzweg, Joseph Ohlman, Lorenz Ohlman, Clemens Ohlman, Charlie Ohlman, Leo Ohlman, John Ohlman, Michael Ohlman, William Ohlman and Mrs August Berger. Predeceased: Joseph Ohlman, Frank Ohlman and Xavier Ohlman.1 Ernestine Wilhelmine Henriette Kurtzweg was buried in St. Leonard's Anglican Cemetery, Rockingham, Brudenell & Lyndoch Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.2
She immigrated in 1860 to Canada from Germany.4 Her name was also recorded as Annie Hartwig. She immigrated in 1862 to Canada per her obituary, from Germany.3 She was listed as a witness to the marriage of Joseph Martin Ohlman and Julia Ann McDonald on 15 June 1903 in Our Lady of Holy Angels Church, Brudenell Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.8,9,10,11,12,13,14
Annie Hartwig was recorded as the mother of the bridegroom at the marriage of Clements Ohlman and Ernstine Hilderbrand on 26 November 1906.15
The following obituary appeared in the book Death Notices & Obituaries from The Eganville Leader 1914-1921, originally published published in Eganville, Ontario 20 February 1920 :
Died:
Ernestine Wilhelmine Henriette Kurtzweg, dau of Martin and Caroline Kurtzweg, born Nov 17, 1850 at Ricknow, Brandenberg, Germany. Came to Canada in 1862 and in 1871 married Joseph Ohlman. They lived at Plevna and then at Letterkenny, Burdenell Twp., Renfrew Co.

They had 14 children, 10 sons and four daus. Her husband died years ago. Two sons, Frank and Xavier, perished in the disastrous fire two years ago at Purquois Junction. [Frank Ohlman, his second wife and daughter, and Xavier died at "Porcupine" in a huge, fast moving forest fire fire.] Their remains were laid in New Liskeard cemetery. Left to mourn are her sister, Mrs. G Berger of Rosenthal; eight sons: Joseph of Quartz, Ont; Lorenz of Forest Park, Ill. [the sons of Frank and Rosie later moved to Illinois with their Uncle Joseph who raised them]; Clemens of Contsville, Ont; Charlie, Leo and John at home; Micahel of Napanee and William; Mrs Miller of New Liskeard; Mrs Aug Berger, West Fort William; Mrs Frank McClaren, Syracuse; Mrs Henry Albert, Ottawa.1
