UXBRIDGE [Massachusetts] James J. Gorman, 78, died on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Eileen Gorman of N. Uxbridge; a daughter, Patricia Hamelin and her husband Mike of Uxbridge; a son, John Gorman and his wife Elaine of Whitinsville; a daughter, Kathleen Szerlag and her husband Martin of Northbridge; a daughter, Betsy Salmonsen and her husband Lance of Uxbridge; a son, Denis Gorman and his wife Maria of Douglas; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Theresa Charest of Halls, TN; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Jackie Charest Gorman, in 2002 and by his sister Evelyn and his brother Edward.
Jim was born on Sept. 17, 1931. He was the son of the late John and Daria (Boyer) Gorman. Jim proudly served as a marine in the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. and reached the rank of staff sergeant. Jim worked for 36 years at Mass Electric starting as a lineman and advancing to area supervisor. Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife and family throughout the USA. He especially enjoyed visiting relatives in Halls, TN. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family and friends at holiday gatherings, birthdays, and special occasions. His family would like to thank Dr. Kaddis and the oncology dept. staff at Dana Farber, Milford, his home health care providers, and his VNA Visiting Nurse Association nurse Sue Burgess for the excellent, kind, and compassionate care that was given to Jim throughout his illness.
His funeral will be held on Sat. Sept. 11 [2010] from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd, Uxbridge with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St., Uxbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Uxbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home are Fri. Sept. 10 from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Cancer Care Center, Milford Regional Medical Center Milford Regional Medical Center (Milford Regional) is the hospital division of Milford Regional Healthcare System, Inc., a comprehensive healthcare system that includes the Visiting Nurse Association of the Greater Milford-Northbridge Area and Tri-County Medical Associates, Inc., 14 Prospect St., or VNA Hospice of Greater Milford, 25 Birch St. both Milford, MA 01757.
