Elmer David Owen married Margery (Marjorie) Jean Harper, daughter of Howard Clifford Harper and Wilhelmina Marie ("Willa") Trott, on 11 January 1943 in Los Angeles County, California. According their Marriage License, it was Elmer's first marriage and Marjorie's third marriage. Elmer, originally from Virginia, was a Private in the U.S. Army stationed in California

Note: Elmer David Owen was apparently not the father of Margery's children John Robert Owen (born 1947), Marilyn (born 1948) and Jacqueline (born 1949) [and possibly Theresa, born 1953]. A 30 March 1999 Letter from the California Department of Social Services states that at the time of her daughter Marilyn's birth in 1948 Margery had been married to her third husband [apparently Elmer David Owen]for approximately five years [since 1943], but that he was not the birth father of Marilyn, and that Marilyn's father was also the father of her brother John Robert Owen, born in 1947. John Robert Owen's birth certificate states that his father was Robert James Chappel.^6,7

Elmer David Owen and Margery (Marjorie) Jean Harper were divorced after 1948. A 30 March 1999 letter from the California Department of Social Services states that Margery was still married to her third husband [Elmer David Owen] at the time of her daughter Marilyn's birth in 1948.

Elmer David Owen married Florie Mitchell.³

Elmer David Owen died on 29 January 1968 in Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 48.^2,3 He was buried in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lynch Station, Campbell County, Virginia.²
