Emma was born on September 1865 in Fayette County, Iowa.1



Emma Dykins died of apoplexy. on 10 August 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, at age 77. At the time of her death, she was 78 years old and single.

The Thursday, 12 August 1943, edition of The Daily Oklahoman carried the following obituary (on page 13):

Miss Emma Dykins
Funeral services for Miss Emma Dykins, 78 years old, who died Wednesday [11 August 1943] at her home, 1001 Northeast Nineteenth Street [Oklahoma City, OK], will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday [13 August 1943] in the Hahn funeral chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill [Fairlawn?].
Miss Dykins is survived by two brothers, V. D. and W. R. Dykins, both of Oklahoma City.

Emma Dykins was buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, in Crypt 5, Letter J, Section 3, Lower Mausoleum, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, by Hahn Funeral Home. [Fairlawn Cemetery Statistic No. A-6328].
Emma Dykins appeared on the census of 1870 in the household of William Henry Harrison Dykins and Rachel Dykins in Douglas, Auburn Township, Fayette County, Iowa, which lists William Dykins, 29, his wife Rachel [Whitbeck], 24, and their daughter Emma, 4. William is listed as a farm laborer, owning real property worth $5,000 and personal property worth $600. Betsy Whitbeck, who was Rachel's younger sister, age 19, lived with the family. Betsy, who was attending school, owned real property worth $6,000, perhaps an inheritance from deceased parents.2

Emma Dykins appeared on the census of 1880 in the household of William Henry Harrison Dykins and Rachel Dykins in Auburn Township, Fayette County, Iowa, which lists W.H. Dykins, 39, his wife Rachel, 34, their daughter Emma, 15, and sons Vernon, 9 and Willie R., 9 months. W.H. Dykins is listed as "works on farm", Rachel as "keeping house" and Emma as "at school". Both W.H. and Rachel are listed as being born in Illinois, and all four of their parents are listed as being born in New York. Their children are all listed as being born in Iowa.3

Emma Dykins appeared on the census of 1900 in the household of William Henry Harrison Dykins and Rachel Dykins in 621 Union Avenue, Madison, Lake County, South Dakota, which lists William H. Dykins, 59 born November 1840 [sic, probably 1841] in Illinois; his wife Rachel, 55, born December 1844 in Illinois; and their children (all born in Iowa) Emma M., 34, born September 1865, Vernon D., 29, born July 1870, and Willie R., 20, born August 1879. They apparently lived very close to the James V. Regan family.1

Emma Dykins never married. She sent money to the Oakridge Cemetery in Auburn Township, Fayette County, Iowa, to care for the graves of her grandparents, Elias and Emily [Bennett] Dykins.

Biography

Rebecca was born on 1820 in New York. According to the 1880 Iowa census, both parents of Rachel [Whitbeck] Dykins were born in New York. Another source (#892) gives her birth year as 1823. She married Walter Robert Calvin Whitbeck on 9 April 1842.1 Rebecca died on 1852, at age ~32. Her body was interred on 1852 at in York Township Cemetery, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Biography

Vernon was born on July 1870 in Fayette County, Iowa.1 He married Lillian???. He married Nell??? after 1932. Vernon died on 21 March 1951, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, at age 80. The cause of his death was senility. At the time of his death, he was 80 years old and married.

The Thursday, 22 March 1951, edition of The Daily Oklahoman carried the following obituary (on page 5):

Sickness Fatal to V.D. Dykins

Vernon D. Dykins, 77, of 1001 NE 19 [Oklahoma City, OK], retired paint and paper contractor, died Wednesday [21 March 1951] following a long illness. Born in Iowa, Dykins had lived in Oklahoma City since 1905. He was employed by Dolese Brothers Co., 13 NW 13 [Oklahoma City, OK], for 28 years. He was a member of Knights of Pythias and First Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife, Nell, of the home. Arrangements will be announced by Watts funeral home.
. He was buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, in Lot 36, Block 10 [the same lot as his father, W.H. Dykins] by Watts Funeral Home. [Fairlawn Cemetery Statistic No. A-8278].

He married Dalphena (Phena) Eigle on 4 December 1900 in Madison, Lake County, South Dakota.3 He married Pearl Mae Oliver circa 1923. The marriage probably took place in Oklahoma.

William (Will) Ray Dykins died on 31 October 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, at age 69. The cause of his death was asthma and pneumonia. At the time of his death, he was 68 years old and widowed.

His wife, Dalphena, died on 24 April 1918 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, at age ~35, leaving him a widower. The cause of her death was tuberculosis. At the time of her death she was 35 years old and married.

Will R. Dykins adopted a son, named Howard Walker Dykins, when Howard was 7 or 8 years old. Howard was born 17 March 1912 [Social Security Death Index], so the adoption took place around 1919. It is possible that Howard Dykins may have been the son of Will's second wife, Pearl Mae Oliver, and her first husband, Rose Oliver [GenCircles.com - Hamrick Hambrick Family]. Howard is referred to as a stepson in Will's obituary. In 1995, Howard Dykins was age 83 and lived at 2928 N.E. 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73121. According to the Social Security Death Index, Howard Dykins died on 30 May 1998.
      Howard Dykins later adopted a daughter, named June Dykins [Ellis]. In 1995, June lived at 2844 N.E. 23rd Street, Lot 14A, Oklahoma City, OK 73121, telephone: 405-424-0860.

The Monday, 1 November 1948, edition of The Daily Oklahoman carried the following obituary:

William Ray Dykins
William Ray Dykins, 68, of 3000 NE 23 [Oklahoma City, OK], died Sunday afternoon [31 October 1948] after a heart attack. He had been in ill health for two years.
Dykins came to Oklahoma City 45 years ago [in about 1903] from South Dakota. He was in the real estate and rental business here before his retirement. He was a member of Northeast Baptist church, a thirty-second degree Mason and a Shriner.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Dykins and a step-son Howard Dykins, both of the home.
Hahn funeral home will announce funeral arrangements.

The Tuesday, 2 November 1948, edition of The Daily Oklahoman carried the following funeral notice:

William R. Dykins
Funeral for William R. Dykins, 68, of 3000 NE 23 [Oklahoma City, OK] will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday [2 November 1948] in Hahn Memory chapel with burial in Fairlawn cemetery. Dykins died Sunday afternoon [31 October 1948]. The family has requested no flowers be sent.
