Biography

Oscar Foudray was born in 1835 in Fleming County, Kentucky.1,2

Oscar Foudray married Loxie LeeAnn Ray circa 1860.3 He died in 1875 in in the Verdigris River near, Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas, at age ~40. According the 1878 biography of his father, William Derrick Foudray, "Oscar drowned some years ago in Missouri [sic] by a team plunging, terribly frightened, into a stream in that State. He and a little son [apparently Willie] perished at the same time."1,4 He was buried in ten miles north of, Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas.3
Oscar Foudray appeared on the census of 4 September 1850 in the household of William Derrick Foudray and Elizabeth Foudray in Second Division, Fleming County, Kentucky, which lists William [Derrick] Foudray, 56, a farmer owning $100 of real estate, born in Pennsylvania; his third wife Elizabeth [Davis], 38, born in Virginia; his son Oskar [sic], 15, a laborer, by his first wife Elizabeth Williams; and their son Milton W.,15; both children were born in Kentucky.5 Oscar Foudray and Loxie LeeAnn Foudray appeared on the census of 1870 in Sugar Creek, Barry County, Missouri. The 1870 census gives Oscar's age as 36 and his wife Loxie's age as 26.3,6
He was a farmer in 1870.6

In about 1875, the Oscar and Loxie Foudray family left Missouri to seek a new home in Oregon. In attempting to cross the Verdigris River near Coffeyville, Kansas, Oscar Foudray and his ten-year old son Willie were drowned and were buried ten miles north of Coffeyville. Loxie Foudray returned with the four other children to Greenfield and Arcola, Missouri, and a few months later she and the baby [perhaps James?] died. I do not have among my notes a record of the baby's name.
