NASHVILLE, March 7.—Gov. Buford Ellington has commuted the sentence of a former Navy man stationed at Memphis who drew a 15-year sentence for larceny and robbery in 1956.
The Governor’s action makes Gary Gordon Haughton eligible for early parole.
According to records here, Haughton and a companion stole cars in Memphis, then gave servicemen a lift and robbed them. Both were absent without leave from the Navy at the time of the offenses.
It was the unanimous recommendation of the state Board of Pardons and Paroles that Haughton’s 15-year term be reduced to from 5 to 15 years.
The Governor’s commutation order points out Haughton was stationed at Memphis Naval Air Station at the time of the robberies and that all the offenses took place In a short time.
“Prior to that, he had a good reputation, comes from a good family and has had an excellent record since his confinement,” the order said.
Pist, Atty. Gen. Phil Canale and his assistant, Braxton Gandy, neither recommended nor opposed the granting of executive clemency in Haughton's- case.

Born May 5,1920, in Chica- go, she lived in Winchester for 13 months. She volunteered for the Humane Society in Del Mar, Del Mar Hospice and Children’s Hospital for the Handicapped in Orlando, Fla. She was a homemaker for 59 years and a member of the Atlanta Garden Club and Bridge Club. She was voted Chicago's Best Model at age 19.
Mrs. Fitzwilson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Fitzwilson. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Contreras of Winchester and Gail Reynolds of Geor- gia; son Roger Fitzwilson of San Diego; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren

Rocklin, California - On Saturday, March 20, 2021, David Haughton, loving husband and father, passed away at age 68 of congestive heart failure. David, a Cali- fornia Bay Area native, was born in July, 1952, to Bob and Valda Haughton. He raduated from Cubberley ligh School in Palo Alto in 1970. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an excellent auto mechanic for 30 years. In July 1977, he married Eileen McLoughlin. They raised 3 sons, Joseph, Matthew, and Robert.
David believed in fami- ly first, i le was a Boy Scout leader in San Jose and a mer- it badge counselor. At Camp Chawanakee, he assisted
many scouts in achieving their goals. He was an avid fisherman, camper, and hik- er. Yosemite and Pinecrest Lake were like paradise to him. He was a 49er faith- ful and a lifelong Stanford booster. He loved classic rock music, playing poker, and John Wayne. His white 1968 Camaro was his pride and joy. He would lend a helping hand to anyone who asked, so it’s no surprise that he is an organ donor as well.
David was preceded in death by his father. Bob, and his mother, Valda. He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen, his sons Joseph (Dehlia), Matthew (Shelly), and Robert (Abbey), his brother Roger (Judy), and sister Laurie (Peter) Mot- taz, 4 grandchildren, Aaron, Jakob, Sophie, and Caiden. Also mother-in-law Eleanor McLoughlin (age 100!), sis- ters-in-law Cecelia (John) Dickinson, Julia (Wayne) Usher, Mary El Moore, Jo- anne (Bill) Taylor, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held this summer, and he will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Califor- nia.

Matthew C. Haughton was born on Sept. 27, 1912 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the union of Alfred Haughton and Lula Patterson Haughton. He departed this life on July 28, 2007 at his residence in California City.
He joins his wife, Bessie M. Haughton, their daughter, Rosetta Martin and their son, Michael Haughton, and his parents. The memories of Matthew will be cherished by his daughter, Rochell Burton, and his son, David Haughton and his wife, Johnetta; also, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
