Ethel M. Houghton
Ethel M Houghton, 100, former ly of Goodman, Wis . died on Tues- day. Feb 4. 1997. at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Antigo. She was born on Sept 10, 1896, in Michigan, the daughter of the late Bagley and Hannah Harris
Ethel graduated from Escanaba High School and taught school prior to her marriage to George A. Houghton on July 13, 1915, at Escanaba. After their marriage, the couple moved to Goodman where he was manager of the Gandman Lumher Co until his death on Feb 2. 1960. Mrs Houghton was active in community affairs in Goodman and Iron Mountain, Mich., until moving to Antigo in 1987. She served many years as chairwoman of the Good- man Red Cross and was appointed as an honorary member She was a member of the Chippewa Club and Woman’s Club of Iron Mountain and of the Ladiea Auxiliary of the American Legion in Goodman and the Eastern Star, Ethel was also a director and board chairman of the Citizens Bank of Goodman from 1960 to 1987. She was a member of the Goodman Union Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lyman (June) Diereks, Anti- go; a son, George A. (Hazel) Houghton, Wausau; 10 grandchil- dren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her busband; her parents, a daughter, Ethelmae Stamm; a granddaugh- ter, Roberta Stamm; four brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be held at Ham. Friday, Feb. 7. 1997 at the Bradley Funeral Home. Antigo. The Rev. John Vaughan and Rev. Gene Krueger will officinte. Visita- tion will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Godman.
