BiographyBarbara Haven: Notes for JAMES LEMOND HAVEN:
James Lemond Haven, born at Cincinnati, Ohio on Vine Street east side, about opposite the end of what was then Center Street, now Longworth St. In 1827 the family moved into a brick house in Center Street near Race, now no. Longworth Street which was given to Fanny B. Haven in heir of all further claims and demands on the estate of her father or mother by her mother.
Notes for REBECCA HOPKINS PADDACK:
Father and Mother Paddack lived at the same table with his Father and Mother, and all worked together, dividing the net profits equally until the death of Grandmother Paddack in 1831, and of Grandfather in 1832, and from that time to 1850 Father and Mother continued on the Carthage farm. The orchard yielded great quantities of apples and in the years from 1832 to 1837 they made great quantities of cider. The family consisted of their six children and a bound boy, James McWhenny, who stayed until he was 18 years old when he became discontented and Father gave up all claim to him and he learned the tailor's trade with John Van Rink, of Carthage and then lived in the city and worked at his trade.
The girls and this boy had their day's work to pick 60 bushels of apples, Father with their help griding and pressing in te evening and in the morning taking 6 or more barrels to City. One year he got 73 cents per barrel for 50 barrels; another year he sold Sam'l S. Smith 250 barrels at $1.00 per barrel; another year he got $287.50 for 300 bbls. Very little help was hired, indoors or out. After 1840 Father rented out more or less of the farm every year. John Gordon, Henry Moody and John Sheehan each in turn1
