AGE: 94 • Brick

Kathleen R. Houghton passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 ten hours shy of her 95th birthday, at her home in Brick. Born and raised in Jersey City, Kathleen resided in Menlo Park Terrace for over 50 years before moving to Brick six years ago.

For over fifty years, Kay was a parishioner of St. Cecelia's Parish in Iselin and most recently was a member of St. Martha's Parish in Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Howard, Sr; her mother, Mae Timmerman Reynolds; and her brothers, Thomas and Robert Reynolds.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Horahan and her husband, Kevin Sr., Howard Houghton, Jr. and his wife, Janis, James Houghton and his wife, Val, Kathy Wonski and her husband, Michael, Mariellen Scoopo and her husband, Fred; and her loving sister, Ruth J. Olin. She was a devoted grandmother to Kevin Horahan, Jr. and his wife, Marianne, Erin Nagle and her husband, Matthew, Michael Wonski, Thomas Wonski, Andrew Houghton, Michael Houghton, Hannah Houghton, Ryan Scoopo and Taylor Scoopo. She was a loving great grandmother to Kieran Nagle, Quinn Nagle, Hailey Horahan and Christopher Horahan. Kay is also survived by her cousins and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dog, Grover.

Kathleen meant so much to so many people within and outside her family. She selflessly shared her many talents, including baking, sewing, knitting, and the list goes on. Anyone who was in Kay's life is in possession of something special made just for them. Nothing made her happier than to see the joy her gifts brought to others.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30am at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11am at St. Martha's RC Church, Point Pleasant. Interment will be private. Funeral service will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2017 at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Born August 24, 1945 in Rockford IL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter and Lois (Krienke) Houghton. Graduated from Durand High School, Class of 1963. He was employed as a mechanic for various repair shops.

Survivors include life-time companion Margory Clark; children Kip (Paula) Houghton, Pamela (Bruce) Rouleau and Kelly (Lorrie) Clark; grandchildren Zachary and Amber Houghton, T J, Marissa and Sophia; twin sister Nancy Zollar; sister Tami (Gary) Bielefeldt; Aunt Bonnie Krienke and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sherrilyn Kellicut and brother Larry Lee Houghton.

Graveside ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Durand Township Cemetery, 15613 Durand Rd, Durand, IL with Pastor Dick Thickpenny of Bethany Lutheran Church, Broadhead, WI officiating. McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, IL assisted the family.
