Kewaunee, Wisconsin - Jeanne A. (Houghton) Kickbusch, age 84, has joined the angels after a 5 year battle with Dementia and Alzheimer's. She passed away on February 21, 2018 at the Atrium of Kewaunee with family at her side.

Jeanne was born September 22, 1933, the only child to Clarence & Leona (Selch) Houghton in Manitowoc. She was baptized, made 1st communion and was confirmed & attended St. Boniface School & Church. Jeanne attended Lincoln High School. She learned to swim there and it was something she enjoyed her whole life. The family moved to Green Bay and Mom took a mail order course for library aide. She took a job at the Brown County Library in the children's department. It was a job she enjoyed. Jeanne was also proud of the dancing and acting she did with the early Green Bay Community Theater.

Jeanne met Willard C. Kickbusch at Rock Falls in Dykesville. They were married in 1955 at St. Boniface Rectory in Manitowoc. They resided in Kewaunee all of their lives. She was proud of the house Willard & her built on 2nd Street and the 5 children they raised there. Jeanne was saddened when they downsized to the smaller house on 3rd Street. She said we shouldn't say "she liked to cook" but there were always birthday, Christmas & many other parties with lots of great food. Jeanne was always looking at and trying new recipes. The fruit cellar and freezer were always full & we never went hungry; just look at Dad.

When the kids were small, she baby sat for people and worked at Schneider's Triangle for wedding suppers on weekends. When the kids were bigger, she took a job in the kitchen at Kewaunee Memorial Hospital. Jeanne then took the job of Library Assistant at Kewaunee High School in 1971 until retiring to care for her aging parents. It was a job she really enjoyed. She enjoyed playing cards, games, puzzles and reading. Jeanne loved going shopping with the "girls" and going out to eat. She loved the color pink (who can forget the pink phone and the pink bathroom). Jeanne loved her kids, grand kids and great grand kids more than anything.

Surviving her are her husband of 62 years Willard, 6 children: Julie (Dennis) Adelmeyer, Oconto; Debra (Brian) Duescher, Ellisville; Michael Kickbusch, Kewaunee; Tammy (John Haines) Paplham, Algoma; Thomas Kickbusch, Kewaunee; and Patricia Weyenberg, Algoma; her 12 grandchildren: Jessica (Aaron) Schuster, Jeannie (Ed) Connors, Desiree (Steve) Lambrecht, Brian & Collin Adelmeyer, Bridget Cismoski, Cody Paplham, Zach, Chelsea (Branden) & Ashley (Kyle) Kickbusch and Anna & Maxwell Weyenberg; her 10 great grandchildren: Claire, Evan, Lukas, Beau, Trevor, Liam, Leigha, Quinn, Asher & Denny. She is also survived by brother-in-law Donald (Lori) Kickbusch, 3 nieces: Linda Hurley, Sally Deda, Sheri Smidel; and some special cousins. She was preceded in death by 3 infant children, her parents, her in-laws Clarence & Gertrude Kickbusch and her sister-in-law Marion.

Mom wished to have her funeral at St. Boniface, but they are now closed, so it will be at Holy Rosary, Kewaunee, her second parish. Mass of Christian Burial, with the urn present, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 on Wednesday at the church. The family request no cement benches or plaques. If you want, wear something pink to remember Jeanne.

Our prayers are with everyone else traveling this Alzheimer's journey also. We'll be looking for the rainbows Mom!
