Haughton, Jr.
Thomas Hill Haughton, Jr. of 1803 East Eighth St. died Friday Dec. 9, 1977 in a local hospital. Mr. Haughton was born June 16, 1891 in Charlotte, NC, son of the late Thomas Hill and Ella Andrew Haughton. Mr. Haughton was educated in the Charlotte city school; and V.P.I. in Blacksburg, Va. He served in WW I. Mr Haughton was an insurance executive and was president of the Thomas H. Haughton Agency. He retired in 1972 and was a lifelong member of St. Peter' Episcopal Church. Funeral service 3 p.m Saturday, Dec. 10, a St. Peter's Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. Huntington Williams Recter of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, with interment in Elmwood Cemetery Mr. Haughton is survived by his wife, Mrs Cornelia P. Haughton one son, Thomas H Haughton, III of Charlotte; one grandson Thomas H. Haughton IV of Charlotte; one brother, A. A. Haughton of Charlotte. Memorials may be sent to St Peter s Episcopal Endowment Fund

HAUCHTON, SR.

Mr. Alexander Andrews Haughton, Sr. died on Tuesday morning, March 1, 1988, at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. He was born in Charlotte on February 11, 1896, the youngest child of (he late Confederate Captain Thomas Hill Haughton and Ella Andrews Haughton. He was graduated from the former First Ward High School in Charlotte in 1914, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Haughton was an Engineer in the U.S. Army, serving as a Captain in the First World War. Following the war, he worked as a Cotton Broker in New York City. In 1924, when his firm opened a cotton brokerage office in Charlotte, ne was named its Manager. In 1928, Mr. Haughton became the Charlotte Manager of the stock brokerage firm of Abbott, Proctor and Paine and was named a Special Partner of the New Yorkbased firm in 1967. In 1970, Abbott, Proctor and Paine merged with Paine Webber and Mr. Haughton became a partner of Paine Webber, where he continued to serve his many loyal cli- ents. Throughout his long years of service, Mr. Haughton provided wise investment counsel to many of Charlotte’s leading citizens and thereby indirectly contributed to the growth of the city. Mr. Haughton retired in 1981 after a career spanning 57 years in stocks, where he was regarded as the "Dean of Charlotte Stock Brokers". He was a member of the Charlotte Country Club, the Char- lotte City Club, the Kiwanis Club, and a founding member of Christ Episcopal Church. In June of 1923, Mr. Haughton was married to the former Blanche Yandell who survives him. He is also sur- vived by two daughters, Mrs. John Worth McAlister, III and Mrs. Robert Theodore McLaughlin; two sons, Mr. Alexander Andrews Haughton, Jr. and Mr. Gerald Lawrence Haughton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be private for Mr. Haught- on’s family. Memorials may be made to Thompson Childien's Home, P.O. Box 25129, Charlotte, NC 28229. The family will be at the residence of Mrs. McLaughlin, 3808 Foxcroft Road. Harry & Bryant Company is serving the family of Mr. Haughton.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Eugene Houghton. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy; daughters, Danyalle Houghton, Deanna Houghton, Devon Houghton; grandchildren, Carson, Cooper, Charley Lynn, Jayce; his mother, Lois Houghton; sister, Janet Davis; nephews, Eric, Chad; niece, Suzie; in-laws, Charles & Velma Burden, Sharon & Phil Errerger, Debbie & Ken Bayne. As Cubby had wished cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard "Skip" Meyer officiating. Military honors under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service.
