ObituaryVet’s Last Wish To Be Granted
One of the last requests of Jim Houghton, 44-year-old World War veteran, who for the last few years had been almost totally disabled due to war injuries, will be granted.
It was the wish of the veteran that he be buried with military honors. Tomorrow at 3 p. m. at Inglewood Park Cemetery friends and American and Canadian Legion members will gather to accord Mr. Houghton full military honors. He will be buried in the British plot at the cemetery. Several months ago physicians warned Mr. Houghton that his death was imminent. He continued to take part in Legion affairs, despite his failing health. He died Monday at his home, 617 Laveta Ter.
The veteran enlisted with the Black Watch Highlanders in 1915 and was gassed at Ypres. Follow- ing the war, he became police com- missioner at Winnipeg, Canada. Three years ago he came to Holly- wood, where he had since been ac- tive in affairs of Hollywood Post No. 28, Canadian Legion, and was a regular guest at meetings of the Hollywood American Legion Post. Recently the Canadian Legion hon- ored Mr. Houghton with the hon- orary position of vice commander at large. He was known as "the ambassador of Post No. 28.”
He leaves his widow and a son, Roy.

BiographyJanet Jones: Family legend has that he was also a Canadian Mountie who helped with the capture of a notorious Chicago gangster. He then moved to LA where he served as a driver or bodyguard to film star Mary Pickford. He died circa 1935 in LA and both my Mother and her cousin remember being told she sang at the funeral. They also remember photos of an elaborate funeral.

My mother believes he had a son named Roy who was in the oil industry and a grandson who was a test pilot for Boeing.

My mother remembers hearing a tale that he helped with the capture of a bootlegging gangster in Chicago. This would be during Prohibition but I have nothing to document her claims.
James died in 1935 in LA. Selina (nee' Nygard) and their son Roy remained in LA. Selina died in 1960 (buried in Forest Hills Glendale) and Roy in 1965. Voter registration rolls indicate that a Sigrid Houghton lived with them ...possibly Roy's wife?????
