Passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007. She was born November 23, 1931 in Bowen, KY, the daughter of George and Sarah (Townsend) Townsend and had been a resident of this area for several years. Malinda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Houghton on September 1, 2001; and a sister, Elizabeth Hamilton. She is survived by her children, Mitchell (Maggie) Houghton, Debra Griffioen, Anita Brown and Candice Jones; several grand and great grandchildren; her sisters, Mandy Hensley, Ethel Shepperd, Joyce Rugg, Barbara Giles, Ida Mae Mc Kenzie and Sandy Schuler; her brothers, Andrew Townsend and Charles Townsend; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 Monday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Pastor John Vick, officiating. Interment will follow in Almena Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 PM. 269-343-1508

She was united in marriage to Mitchell Houghton on July 15, 1972, who survives. Maggie had been a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Maggie is survived by her husband, Mitchell S. Houghton, Sr. of Comstock; her son, Mitchell S. Houghton, Jr; siblings, Julie (Marvin) Thompson, Marsha Wyman, Bobby Conley, Martin (Jo) Price, Paul (Roberta) Price and Amanda (Jim) Doolittle; and several nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A funeral Mass will take place Thursday, 11:00 o'clock at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. Burial will immediately follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1:00 o'clock. Houghton is survived by 2 Sons: Jack and Lesli Houghton and Timothy Houghton both of Muskegon. 4 Daughters: Sherry and Colin Able of Oregon, Lilly and Ed Janowiak of Muskegon, Neila and Ronald Swanson of Sparta and Tina and Greg Smith of Oregon. 20 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren. 3 Brothers; Ivan and Alice Houghton, Butch Houghton both of Lakewood, MI and Douglas and Ellen Houghton of Muskegon. 1 Sister: Ina Sheldon of Oregon.
