My name is Marilyn Chambers and according to my research I am a descendant of Ralph Houghton and I also live in Lancaster, Ma. I received my copy of New England Ancestors today and read your notice. As your probably know Ralph was Lancaster's first Town Clerk, in the winter of 1969 I worked in the town clerk's office as a helper for about 3 months (I did not know that I was descended from Mr. Houghton at that time) and in 2003 I was the temporary assistant town clerk for 6 months, at which point I did know that I was a descendant of Mr. Houghton's which made the job a little more exciting. I now volunteer 4 hrs. a week in the Historical Commission's office, as I am a retired state employee. Recently our local community paper had many pictures of the house that Ralph built ca. 1685 when he moved back to Lancaster. When it was built it was in Lancaster, Lancaster was so big that over the years many towns were formed from parts of it. So the house is now located in the town of Harvard, Ma. and it is for sale for $649,000. I have never seen it and I have no idea where it is in Harvard, but hopefully once I have healed from my recent knee replacement surgery I can find out where it is and drive by.
My parents moved to Lancaster when I was a year old in 1942 and the house that I grew up in sits on land that was once owned by John Houghton.
