Charles Harold Houghton, 63, of Fayetteville, died peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends. He graduated from St. Vincent's High School in Syracuse and SUNY Morrisville. He was stationed in Korea while serving in the Army during Vietnam. Charlie retired as postmaster of the Fayetteville, NY, Post Office, following a career spanning more than 30 years of work for the Post Office in various capacities. He was an avid golfer and reader and coached youth sports. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Kit Houghton.

Charlie is survived by his children, Sean Houghton and Brenna Houghton, and his sister, MaryAnn Houghton.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel. Burial will follow in Fayetteville Cemetery. A reception, to which friends are welcome, will be held at Woodcrest Golf Club, 6200 Cheese Factory Rd., Chittenango, at noon Wednesday. Family and friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee Street, Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, 6606 Kinne Rd., DeWitt, NY 13214 or American Lung Association , 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW., Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.²

Mary Alice Houghton, 76, of Princeton, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late John D. and Helen Broyles Caudill of Charleston.

A graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, she received her education in the Kanawha County public schools and attended Morris Harvey College. Prior to moving to Princeton in 1966, she was employed by Appalachian Power Company and the Newspaper Agency Corporation, Charleston. She worked for the Princeton Chamber of Commerce for two years and, in 1994, retired after 26 years with Princeton Community Hospital where she served as project secretary during its construction, public relations coordinator and patient representative and 10 years as director of volunteers. She was a former member of the West Virginia Association for Hospital Public Relations, serving as president for two years, the West Virginia Society of Directors of Volunteer Services, and the national associations of both hospital groups. She also served on the Mercer County Commission on Aging Board of Directors. While at Princeton Community Hospital, Mary Alice unselfishly assisted hundreds of travelers who were victims of traffic accidents or illness while traveling through this area, bonding friendships with people from all across the United States and other countries. She dearly loved her family and was a dedicated, proud supporter of their activities. She enjoyed yard work and caring for her roses, sharing their beauty with others throughout the years. She derived great pleasure in observing God's world of nature.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Houghton, in 1959.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri Adams and husband, Estill, of Princeton and Sharon Johnson of Athens; five grandchildren, Jessica Adams, Kristen Adams, and Vanessa Adams of Princeton, Nick Johnson and wife, Christy, of Bluefield and Laura Johnson of Athens; sister, Minnie Haring of Barnesville, Pa; and brother, John D. Caudill III of Dunbar.

In accordance with Mary Alice's request, her body has been cremated. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 4, George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, with Rev. Harry Christie officiating. To honor Mary Alice in this celebration of her life, those attending are asked to wear bright clothing.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athens Park, PO Box 458, Athens, WV 24712, or PCH Foundation Hospitality House, PO Box 1369, Princeton, WV 24740, or to the Pikeview High School Foundation, 3566 Eads Mill Road, Princeton, WV 24740.¹
