SOUTH RYEGATE, Vt. -- Ronald Thomas Houghton, 59, of 99 Terry Hill Road, died Dec. 13, 2003, at his residence after a sudden illness.

He was born in Goffstown, N.H., on Sept. 11, 1944, the son of Roger and Elizabeth (Bose) Houghton.

He graduated in 1962 from New Boston High School.

Mr. Houghton was a self-employed building contractor. He also worked at DCI for the last eight years as a forklift operator, where he was called the "Rock."

On Aug. 23, 1975, he married Theresa I. Lesmerises.

He attended the Ryegate Corner Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Houghton enjoyed mowing his lawn, working in his vegetable garden and deep sea fishing and was a kind, gentle and giving person.

Family members include his wife of South Ryegate; five sons, Roger Thomas Houghton, Ernie Lesmerises and Carl Randall, all of Manchester, N.H., David Randall of Griffin, Ga., and Armand Randall of Sullivan, N.H; three daughters, Deanna Lynn Houghton of Rye, N.H., Violet C. Bottenhorn of Ryegate and Lillian Randall of Benton, N.H; 18 grandchildren and a great-grandson; a brother, John Houghton of Jefferson, N.H; two sisters, Nancy Plaisted of Las Vegas, Nev., and Betty Smith of Jefferson Meadows, N.H; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H.

The funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. in South Ryegate Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Catherine Cook will officiate.²
