Biography

James Lathan lived at Theresa during his youth. He later took up the trade of barbering, working for a time in Watertown, NY and later for a long period of time in Syracuse, NY. He returned to Watertown about 1950 and was employed at the City Barber Shop on Court Street, then later at the
Royal Barber Shop, also on Court Street. He had returned to Watertown from Syracuse because of a stomach ailment, which eventually led to his death.

Leslie E. Rogers, 72 of 8 Sanger Ave., retired state highway department
official and summer visitor to Dingman's Point, near Alexandria Bay, died
Thursday in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, Utica.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Stevens funeral home, with
Rev. James N Pauley, Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Theresa.

Suviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriet Houghton Rogers, fomerly of Theresa; a
daughter Mrs. Joseph (Myra) Veldheir, Brewster [NY]. A son, John, died in
infancy.

Mr. Rogers was born in Black Creek [NY]. He was graduated from Cuba High
school and was a veteran of World War I. He was chief maintenance clerk
for the state highway department for 46 years, until his retirement six
years ago.

In August, 1926, he married Miss Harriet Houghton at the home of her
parents, near Theresa. They had lived in New Hartford [NY] 33 years. Since
his retirement, they had spent summers at Dingman's Point.

Mr. Rogers was a member of the New Hartford Methodist Church, its Men's
club, and the Faxton Masonic lodge.³

Biography

Leonard Busler was a graduate of Theresa High School and St. Lawrence
University, Canton, NY, Class of 1925. After his marriage to Winifred in
1926, the couple lived in Ogdensburg, where he was a salesman for the
Standard Oil Co. In 1929, they moved to Theresa.

Mr. Busler went into partnership with Donald Huddleston in the operation
of the petroleum products business Busler & Huddleston. He retired after
35 years in the business. Following the death of his wife in 1987, Leonard
moved to Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., NY, where he resided with his daughter
Janice Busler Smith. He health began to fail in 1990. He died at the
Community Nursing Home in Potsdam where he had been a patient since April,
1993.

Active in community affairs, he was a member of the Theresa Presbyterian
Church and the Indian River Regional Health Services board of trustees, a
charter member and past president of the Theresa Rotary Club and a former
member and president of the Theresa High School school board. Leonard was
also a 60-year member of the Theresa masonic Lodge and served as district
deputy of the Jefferson-Lewis Masonic Distric from 1943 to 1944.¹

Sharon Houghton Bailey passed into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Dec. 14, 2005 in her childhood home within 12 ft. of where she entered this world on May 5, 1927. Her Bidwell Avenue home of 78 years was the place that she held so dear to her heart.

Sharon married Thorson W. Bailey on June 22, 1945 and they shared 60 full years together. She loved her husband Tommie as she was always concerned for his needs. She held the most important job in the world‹the full time rearing of five children‹four boys and a girl. She was richly rewarded in her final days, as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all present, seeing to her every need.

Her second love were her many friends, neighbors, her cattle, horses and many pets that she nurtured to the end. Sharon held active positions in her community as the President of the California Cattle Women's Association, 1983-1984, 4-H Horse Leader and Native Daughters of the Golden West‹Chico Chapter. During her life she loved spending time at her 7B Ranch, as well as cooking, painting, and horse back riding.

She is survived by her husband; her five children, Dan, Thor, Ward, and Curt Bailey, and Betsy Adamis; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Glenn Baptist Church on Sunday Dec. 18 at 2 p.m., with a celebration of her life to follow at 1700 Bidwell Avenue, Chico at 4 p.m.
