She received a widow's pension until her remarriage. The probate of Dr. Wiser's estate was completed on 27 May 1865. Eliza then joined her brother and his family in Davenport IA. In 1867 she applied for an allowance for her minor child, Ada. She was awarded a pension of $25 per month for Ada in April 1827. She began to call herself Ella about this time. In 1880 Alfred and Ella separated. There was a story that a young woman confessed to rev. Stubbs that she had been seduced by on of the town fathers, a "pillar of the Church." Rev. stubbs reproached the man and as a result was asked to leave St. Luke's. Ella settled in Queens, NY with her five living children: Ada, Genie, Boysie, Rollo, and Daisey. For a time she supported herself by writing for St. Nicholas Magazine. Later she lived in Brooklyn and ran "Willomere" as a summer hotel on Gravesend Bay. her son, Boysie, ran the hotel next door, "Fort Lowrey."¹

Biography

Jack left school at age 17 after having passed a University of Cambridge examination. John was placed by his father in the office of G. C. Dobell Produce Brokers of Liverpool for 3 years, when he went to America. He went to Omaha where he worked for 3 years as clerk in the Abstract office at Council Bluffs on the Nebraska Division of the Union Pacific Railway from 1885 to 1887. He then went to work for Wells Fargo & Co. Express. He worked as the general traffic manager at the time of his death. He applied for citizenship 15 Nov. 1894 in Ny. He was naturalized in Essex Co., NJ, in 1898.¹

As a child, Jimmy lived in NJ, later in Stillesville, NY. H received a BA from Hamilton College, and did postgraduate work at Yale and Dartmouth. He was an professor of English, and an editor of the Retail Bookseller for 45 years. He retired in 1970. He lived in St. Barthelemy, French West Indies with his daughter Wynne and her husband Peter from 1976 to 1990.¹

She grew up in PA, her family coming from Catasaqua, near Allentown, PA. She received a BA from Delaware College. She worked for a time teaching school for the mentally handicapped in Vineland, NJ. She ran a bookstore then for Duttion Publishing as a secretary to John MacCrae, son of the president of Dutton.¹
