Carolyn Houghton

SCHOHARIE — Mrs. Carolyn Joyce (Hanson) Houghton, 73, of Driftwood Apartments, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, where she had been a patient since March 1.

Mrs. Houghton was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Langley, S.C., a daughter of Roy and Lillie Mae (Blevins) Hanson.

She had lived at Driftwood Apartments for the past 10 years and previously in Central Bridge.

She was educated in the Methodist Children's Home in Atlanta, Ga. She was a homemaker and housewife dedicated to raising her family. Mom truly missed her friends at bingo these last few months.

Mrs. Houghton was married to Albert E. Houghton in 1949, and until his death June 28, 1986.

Survivors include five sons, George E. (Norma) Houghton, of Fonda, Michael L. (Diane) Houghton, of Lykers, Jeffrey B. Houghton of Cooperstown, Willis A. (Sherri) Houghton of Schenectady, and Calvin S. Houghton of Schenectady; one daughter, Caroline M. Salisbury of Schenectady; seven grandchildren, Jeremy and Justin of Greensboro, N.C., Emmie of Columbia, S.C., Jamie of Colonie, Nathan, Simon and Calvin of Schenectady; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Araya and Nicholas of Greensboro, N.C. Survivors also include several brothers and sisters from Georgia.

She was predeceased by one son, Timothy Houghton in 1985.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Schoharie. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. following the calling hours with Mr. Dennis Radford officiating.

Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Charleston Cemetery, Charleston-Four-Corners.

The family had requested that memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carolyn Houghton to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.

Our family wishes to thank the many loving caregivers at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.²
