Chief Waub-ij-ejauk - White Crane died 11/1813 on the Battle Field on the Raisin River, Ontario during the War of 1812-14. His brother Kabmosah also died during that battle.

Upon White Crane's death – the title of Chief went to his son Chief Tugwaugame but he gave it up and with no heirs the title went to the Loon Clan (Schenck). His title went to Peezhickee -Buffalo/ Great Renewer – the French called him Le Bouef and he is the grandson of Chief Andaigweos – who is the furthest Chief that can be traced to the Loon Clan. Chief Peezhickee was born 1759 Madeline Island and died 9/7/1855.

CHILD: Equaysayway/Traveling Woman AKA Marie Madeline born 1770 and died 1850 Madeline Island, WI. She married 7/26/1830 at St. Annes Catholic Church, Mackinac Island, St Ignace, MI to Le Grand Michel Nicolas “Kichemeshane” Cadotte Sr born 7/22/1764 and died 7/3/1837 Madeline Island, WI. Chief White Crane’s daughter renamed herself Madeline and Chief White Crane renamed La Pointe in her honor but Henry Schoolcraft would not call it Madeline Island, he called it Michel's Island. Le Grand Michel is the son of Jean Baptiste “JB” Cadotte Sr and Equawance Anthanasie AKA Marie. Le Grand Michel and Equaysayway daughters married the Warren brothers.

I wonder how difficult it was when she went to visit her in laws in Massachusetts when her in-laws couldn’t speak Ojibwe. Lyman and Mary were married 8/25/1827 in Mackinac Island, WI. Lyman Marcus Warren born 8/9/1794 in Lanesboro, Massachusetts and died 10/10/1847 Madeline Island. Lyman’s parents are Lyman Warren born 5/25/1777 Hartford, Connecticut and died 12/9/1862 Clarkson, Monroe County, New York and Mary Mercy Whipple born 5/31/1770 Providence, RI and died 10/4/1813 in Canada. Lyman and Mercy were married 5/29/1792 in Cheshire, Berkshire, Massachusetts. Lyman married 2^nd wife Rebecca Sweet born 1777 and died 1859. Mary Mercy is the daughter of Stephen Whipple born 7/19/173, died 2/28/1813 and Zilpha Angell born 12/25/1742, died 1/28/1830. Stephen is the son of Benjamin Whipple born 11/11/1688, died 1788 and Esther Millard (Miller) 1683. Zilpha is the son of Nedediah Angell and Mercy Winsor. Nedediah and Mercy were married 1/30/1760 Providence, RI. Lyman and Mary Mercy had 10 children. Lyman and Rebecca had 2 children. Lyman Warren (1777) is the son of Abraham Warren born 9/25/1747 Bristol, Hartford, CT and died 1820 Albany, NY and Isabel Jerome born 1749 Hartford, Hartford, CT.
MARY MARIE CADOTTE AND LYMAN MARCUS WARREN DESCENDANTS
CHILD: William Whipple Warren born 5/27/1825 La Pointe/Madeline Island, WI. He suffered from lung problems for many years and died from tuberculosis on June 1, 1853 in St Paul, MN. William's education started at a mission school at Mackinac, MI and with the urging of his grandfather Lyman, him his brothers and sister Julia went to Clarkson and the Oneida Institute in Whitesboro, New York. On 8/10/1843 at La Pointe/Madeline Island he married Mathilda Aitken – born 1822 in Sandy Lake, MN and baptized at La Pointe/Madeline Island 9/13/1835 and died 10/22/1902 White Earth, MN. She was the daughter of William Alexander Aitken and Gin cumig oke. Gin cumig oke lived at Sandy Lake, MN and was part of the removal to the newly formed White Earth Settlement where she was the first person to die in the newly created Reservation 9/1/1868. William Alexander was an Indian trader. Aiken County is named after him. In the 1860 Census – 7 years after William died - Mathilda 39 was living in the household of John Thompson 23 who was a teamster born in Ohio. There was also a Nelly Jane Thompson 3 born in MN. Could this be her daughter or was she a nanny for this little girl?
In the fall of 1845, Warren moved from Madeline Island to Crow Wing and became the Postmaster. While living in Crow Wing, he was elected to the Minnesota Territory Legislature for Morrison County in 1850. Elected from Crow Wing to represent Benton, Mahkahto, Pembina and Wahthnahta counties. He resigned while in office due to a protest and lost his bid for reelection. He was also an interpreter, historian and a farmer. He had 4 children while in office. In 1852 William completed a manuscript, History of the Ojibwa People. After William’s death – Mathilda married Louis Fontaine who lived in White Earth. Under the Dawes Act, she was allotted land on the White Earth Reservation as "Mathilda Fontaine." She died October 19, 1902. William signed the Treaty of Fond du Lac 1847.³
