This is apparently the same person, according to History of Clinton Co., IA (1879), p. 745.

McCoy: "Neville family in 1870 census, Clinton Co., IA, DeWitt Tp. p. 16 (first wife apparently listed as Laney, a likely transcription error). Need to find in 1880 census, probably will be in Sac Co., IA. Because William is a veteran, he should also be in the 1890 special census."
