BiographyV. I. (Morgan) Uran in her Morgan Genealogy gives Perry and Dicca Morgan, of Amberst, Henry (or Henrice) Co., VA, as parents of Noah, Solomon, Polly, and Hardin Morgan. Andrew Jackson Morgan in a letter to V.I. Uran in 1/1940, states "Perry Morgan, Hardin Morgan's father, was an immigrant from Wales. He claimed John Morgan of Revolutionary fame, as his great grandfather (Imogene Uran stated that he told his children that his great grandfather was John Morgan). He was born in Wales. Hardin Morgan was born in Amas (?) County, Virginia, and moved with his family to Stokes County North Carolina, when but a small boy...Perry Morgan lived to be nearly 97 years old, and made his home with Hardin and Elizabeth Morgan for many years; she told this writer Perry Morgan was nearly 97 when he died." Andrew Jackson described his grandfather Perry Morgan as living with his parents Hardin and Elizabeth Morgan in Stokes Co., NC. when he was 4 years old in 1868. There is no record of the names Perry or Dicca Morgan in any census of NC or VA or TN (except Perry Morgan in 1860, b in 1833 in Morganton Burke Co, who is too young to be this Perry). The 1850 Census of Beaver Island District (North of road from High Rock and Hollow ?ond), Stokes Co, NC (box 645) gives Benjamin Morgan living near Hardin Morgan. (V.I. Uran claimed Hardin's father lived with him.) Hardin was born in Stokes Co, NC. Benjamin Morgan is the only Morgan in Stokes Co in 1810, 1820, and 1840. V. Uran stated that a cousin told her that his name was not Perry but Benjamin, born in VA in 1780. The ages of his children correspond to known birthdates of sons, Noah and Hardin. I believe this is fairly good evidence that Benjamin Morgan is Hardin's father. 1810 Census of Stokes Co, Beaver Island Dist. gives Benjamin with 1 son and 2 daughters, farming. 1820 Census of Stokes Co. gives Benjamin with 3 sons and 3 daughters, listed as in manufacturing. (Also a Martin Morgan with family of 1 son; he and wife age 16-26; younger brother?). 1840 Census lists him with 8 sons and 6 daughters and wife. 1850 Census lists him, near Hardin, with Hiram and his wife Elizabeth and their child Mary; and Fanny and Jane and Benjamin Ore. Listed in 1850 Census, age 70, at Beaver Island Dist., Stokes Co, NC

Dr. Gideon Hill Morgan, in his 1913 Autobiography, states that his grandparents were descendants from "Ireland and Sweden."
Grandson James Hamilton Morgan stated that he had been told that his grandfather received "silver" money at stated times from an estate in Wales or England.



Yadkin Co. was formed in 1850 from Surry Co. (There was a Yadkin district in Stokes Co. in 1840).

GENEALOGY OF THE MORGAN ANCESTRY SO FAR AS KNOW UP TO THIS GENERATION:
PPerry Morgan, Hardin Morgan’s father, was an immigrant from Wales. He claimed John Morgan of Revolutionary fame, as his great grandfather. He was born in Wales. Hardin Morgan was born in Amas (?) County, Virginia, and moved with his family to Stokes County, North Carolina, when but a small boy. He was born September 1, 1816, and died at Liscomb, Iowa, February 1, 1899.
Elizabeth Morgan, whose maiden name was White, was born March 25, 1823, and died at Liscomb, Iowa, May 26, 1896. Hardin Morgan and Elizabeth White were married October 7, 1841. There were 11 children born to this union. They have all passed over the bar except 3 living at this date, January 2, 1940; they are James Hamilton living at Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Emma Lodusca Humphreys Ralls now living at Eldora, Iowa, 77 years old; and A. J. Morgan, now living at Pacific Grove, California, in his 85th year. Perry Morgan lived to be nearly 97 years old, and made his home with Hardin and Elizabeth Morgan for many years; she told this writer Perry Morgan was nearly 97 when he died.     
Grandfather and Grandmother White were born in Henry (?) County, Virginia, and moved to Stokes County, North Carolina, where most of their children were born. Their parents were among the first settlers of the country, and came across the Atlantic Ocean on a sailboat which was shipwrecked in a storm, and they were 6 months before reaching the colonies, and nearly died of thirst and starvation on the boat before reaching land; as Mother Morgan has related to this writer, 2 or 3 times, they were English except one strain 4 generations back where there was a strain of Scotch came in. He was a gambler, horse racer, and owned a small tract of land which his wife and their children farmed.

This is what I find on Morgans in the Census via microfilms at LDS Family history center. I believe
that I have found Pleasant in the 1860 Census Index for TN by the Sistlers, the 1860 census on
microfilm and in the 1870 Census for Hawkins County on Microfilm.
In 1860, there is a household in Hawkins County headed by Lenonah Morgan, age 53, and an adult
woman named Martha F. They have 9 children including a 19-year-old son named Milton S. and a 13-

year-old son named Pleas. B.
Lenonah, Martha F. and Milton S. are all born in NC while Pleas. B. is born in TN.
In 1870, the household of Noah Morgan is found on pg. 79 of the book in Hawkins Co. Noah is 63.
His wife, Martha F., is 54. They have 6 children living with them, the oldest of who is Pleasant
Morgan, age 23.
Noah and Martha are still alive and around in the 1880 census for Hawkins CO.

I also obtained a copy of G.H. Morgan's obituary from the newspaper.
I didn't get the obituaries for W.T. or Martha because the McClung Library has a gap in their
collection (1921-1950's) so I'd need to go to the main library to check on theirs.
Back to G.H.'s obit, it's a fairly detailed obit and gives a brief history on him, how he was born in
Church Hill, Hawkins County, graduated with a medical degree from the University of Tennessee,
studied elsewhere (such as in Philadelphia), practiced in Rogersville before coming to Knox County
circa 1900. Oh, he died at three in the afternoon of Tetanus after stepping on a rusty nail. It also
mentions that he started the American Philosophical Institute. It lists his children but not his sibs only
stating he has many brothers and sisters.

Artillery, Civil War. He was in military service in 29 Nov 1863 in Camp Nelson, KY, Civil War,

Union Army; War Record: "Milton S. Morgan, Corporal, Battery E, 1st Regiment Kentucky Light
Artillery, Civil War." The records show that Milton S. Morgan, aged 22 years, born in Rockingham
Co., NC, and by occupation a farmer, was enrolled 29 Nov. 1863 at Camp Nelson, KY; was mustered
into service on the same date as a private, Battery E., 1st Regiment, Kentucky Light Artillery, and was
mustered out with the battery and honorably discharged as a corporal, 1 Aug. 1865 at Louisville, KY.
Was detailed to wait on his ill brother Pleasant during the war He was a farmer. He ended military
service in 1 Aug 1865 in Louisville, KY. Union soldier in Civil War for 20 months "lacking one
day". He received a pension on 1 Sep 1890 Invalid. Milton was a 2nd Corporal

Divorced his first wife and moved to Dayton OH where he married Margaret Smith. She died circa
1901 when daughter Rose Margaret was 2. 1909 Dayton City Directory lists him at 606 E. Haynes.
He then married a third wife, Emma ???. According to Rose, this wife sold all the property and
disappeared. Had no children with Emma.
He wrote a wonderful letter to cousin Nancy (Hardin's daughter) and Uncle Hardin of *12/31/1865 in
Morgan, p.1; sent from Rogersville, TN. Described custom of *"jumping the broom stick".
Milton was living in late 1913 near Dayton, OH per Gideon's Autobiography
He received a pension on 12 Jul 1916 widow.
He resided in Rogersville, Hawkins Co., TN.
He resided in 1909 in Dayton, Montgomery, OH.

Knoxville.

He was in military service in between 1863 and 1865 Civil War; Union Army. He was a farmer and a

BIOGRAPHY: He was in Knox Co, TN by 1869 (per Noah's birthplace). He worked as a tanner at
Knoxville, Tn. He wrote affidavit for brother Pleasant in 1888 In 1905 Knoxville Directory listed as
living at Tazeweell Pike, Beverley, next to Noah.
The census shows the family was living on Dutch Valley Road in District 2 of North Knoxville in
1920
"I did find proof of the Mineral Springs. I found 3 Chancery Court lawsuits between the various
members of the William T. and Martha R. Morgan family and the springs are mentioned in the
lawsuits. Each of the lawsuits was filed in 1928-1929 pertaining to the property, the ability or "sound
mindedness" of Martha to deal with it and her decision to leave all the property to Bertha Morgan
Hodge.
The first case, a guardianship case, is missing but I can deduce from the other two cases that it was
rejected though it seems to have been appealed all the way to the TN State Supreme Court. Another
deals with trespassing and harrassment while the third deals with inheritance issues. These cases are
genealogical gold mines because they spell out all the descendants of William T. and Martha R
including the deceased children and their heirs. They also show that Martha was receiving a U.S.
Pension as well as $25/month from various people contracted to gather and sell water from the 6
mineral wells on the property.
There are various other cases filed by N.W. (Noah) Morgan versus other Morgan family members as
well as some cases by G.H. Morgan and Clint Morgan, his son. I looked at one of the Clint cases but
it only involved payment for medical services provided. I only looked at a 4 year period in one of the
courts so there may be many more case files in our collection that could reveal lots of info.
I also obtained a copy of G.H. Morgan's obituary from the newspaper. I didn't get the obituaries for
W.T. or Martha because the McClung Library has a gap in their collection (1921-1950's) so I'd need to
go to the main library to check on theirs. Back to G.H.'s obit, it's a fairly detailed obit and gives a brief
history on him, how he was born in Church Hill, Hawkins County, graduated with a medical degree
from the University of Tennessee, studied elsewhere (such as in Philadelphia), practiced in
Rogersville before coming to Knox County circa 1900. Oh, he died of Tetanus after stepping on a
rusty nail. What a waste!!! It also mentions that he started the American Philosophical Institute. It lists
his children but not his sibs only stating he has many brothers and sisters.
Whew, that's it for now. I need to get ready to leave for the day. I'll take a look to see if any of the
other case files I found provide another link for W.T. and G.H.

The death certificate states Sam's parents as WT and Martha Trotter Morgan, AND, it says WT
Morgan was born in Morganton NC. That is in Burke Co. Now we have Noah sightings in 1836 in
Stokes, 1840 in Rockingham, 1845 in Burke? These people got around.

The LDS web page has an International Genealogical Index abstract showing that Margaret J. Conant
married Pleasant B. Morgant on Sept. 29, 1870. I have confirmed this marriage in Hawkins County
Vital records but the groom's surname is "Morgan" and the date is Sept. 26, 1870. I believe that I have
found this family in the 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 US Censuses for Hawkins County TN. I am a little
unsure about the 1910 data where his wife is listed as "Marcha J. and appears to be 10 years too
young. Pleasant is born in TN but his parents were born in NC. In 1880 Pleasant is a farm laborer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Lurene Valentine Morgan, 62, member of a pioneer La Conner, Skagit County, family will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow in the Bonney-Watson chapel. Graveside services and burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, La Cooner.
Mrs. Morgan died yesterday in a hospital after four months' illness. Her husband, James H. Morgan, is a retired teacher.
Mrs. Morgan taught school in Skagit County before her marriage. She was born in La Conner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Valentine, who settled in the are in the 1880's.
Mrs. Morgan was graduated from the Western Washington College of Education. She and her husband came here 15 years ago from Cut Bank, Mont., after he retired as superintendent of schools. The family home is at 431 16th Av. N.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of the First Christian Chruch, Acaacia Court No. 44, Order of Amaranth; Greenwood Chapter No. 196, Order of Eastern Star, and the McGuffey Readers' Society.
Surviving besides her husband, are three brothers, Grant of Everett, and Samuel and Earl Valentine, both of Bellingham and two sisters...

She is survived by her mother, Rene Bijani; sister, Kaniz Shammim, at home; maternal grandparents, Ellen V. Wilson, Riceville, Iowa and Bill J. Wilson, Dublin, Georgia; paternal grandmother, Zanub Bono Bijani, Des Moines, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were held December 8, 1978...Internment was in Riverside Cemetery in riceville...

BiographyHe was an actor and stuntman for at least 17 years in Hollywood. He met Peggy while working on the film The Ten Commandments, in which Yvonne played the wife of Moses and he was a stuntman. They married in 1955. Their relationship was a difficult one. His daughter stated their home life "was not serene and calm." He was an alcoholic. In 1961, while working on How the West was Won, he was accidently run over by a train in Phoeniz, AZ. He lost his left leg, and had severe facial and back injuries. His wife Yvonne was thinking of divorce at the time, but changed her mind and took care of him. They filed a million dollar suit against MGM, but lost the suit. They had significant financial difficulty until John Wayne, the actor and a friend of Yvonne, offered her a role in his next movie (McClintock). She supported the family from then on.2
