Notes for Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Eileen MANEILLY
From her obituary: 165
Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Hanson departed this life she so dearly loved on Wednesday (January 14, 2OO4). She was the widow of her beloved husband, Harold Hanson. She was born in Canton, OH and graduated from McKinley High School and the Timken Mercy Medical Center as a registered nurse. She enjoyed and loved her long career in many aspects of nursing, including several years at Hartford Hospital and at various local industries as an occupational health nurse. She retired in 1982. Betsy was an avid gardener and active in local garden clubs serving as President of the Nutmeg Club in Glastonbury, was a flower show judge at the Berlin Fair, was a long time member of the Evergreen Club and of The Conn. Horticultural Society. She presented programs on the preservation of plants and flowers, holiday designs and other arts and crafts to many groups in the area. She was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church, East Hartford and served as president of the Lutheran Church Women. She worked for five years on a committee that constructed 25 stained glass windows that grace the sanctuary of her church. Elizabeth leaves her beloved family, a daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Jon Avery of Pottstown, PA; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Kim Hanson of Harwinton; grandchildren James and Shawn Avery Carnall, Darilyn Avery, Jeremy White, Lindsay Hanson, and Kyle Hanson; and beloved friend and companion, William Edge of Farmington. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1120 Silver Lane, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the church for the memorial garden, which she designed and sponsored in memory of her husband.
