| Note | Event Memos from GEDCOM Import... Biography Let's call him 'William of Gresford'. The mystery here is that this William is baptised only 2 years after the first Willian. So, either the first William has died or this is a a different family. Gresford lies some four kilometers North-North East of Wrexham in Denbighshire, Wales. The ancient parish of Gresford included, in addition to its Denbighshire townships, the smaller of the two main detached parts of Flintshire, the townships of Marford and Hoseley. The parish of Rhosddu was formed in 1886 out of the townships of Stantsy and Acton in the parish of Wrexham and parts of the parishes of Gresford and Gwersyllt ..... effectively the Northern inner suburbs of Wrexham. The parish of Rossett was formed in 1840 out of the parish of Gresford, comprising the Denbighshire townships of Allington ( Trefalun ) and Burton, and the detached Flintshire townships of Marford and Hoseley. Burton, Rossett and Trefalun lie in a line adjacent to each other on the River Alyn running from West to East less than 2 kilometers North East of Gresford. Marford lies half way between Gresford and Rossett. The main Wrexham - Chester road ( A483 ) runs through Gresford, Marford, Rossett and Pulford. The railway runs parallel to the A483 less than half a kilometer to the West all the way to Rough Hill and Lache where it moves to about 1 kilometer to the West before entering Chester. At a point 1 kilometer North of where the railway passes through Burton, it comes to Broadoak, and the Broad Oak Farm. The church is a good example of a Perpendicular style of architecture, whatever that means. Today, the national border between Wales and England places the following country villages in England :- Lache, Eccleston, Lower Kinnerton, Dodleston, Handbridge, Pulford, Poulton, Aldford, Churton, Farndon, Crewe Hall, Barton, Coddington, Shocklack, Tilston, Rough Hill These villages are in Wales :- Broughton, Bretton, Hawarden, Higher Kinnerton, Kinnerton Green, Burton, BraodOak, LLai, Rossett, Revalyn ( Allington ), Hope, Holt, Darland, Marford, Moseley, Sutton Green, Isycoed. There are Gresford Parish records for (a) Baptisms 1661-1870, (b) Marriages 1672-1884 and (c) Burials 1661-1887. In addition there are Bishop's Transcripts for the periods (1) 1670-1898 on microfilm at the National Library of Wales and (2) 1843-44 at the Clwyd Record Office Ruthin. This may be the William SNELLSON who appears in Gresford Burials 1688-1735, but there is no direct evidence that I can see .... yet. NOTE - This William SNELSON who married Margaret Edwards is mentioned as a beneficiary in the Will of his father Thomas Edwards - as is his wife Margaret and children William, Thomas and Elin. |
