BiographyVera Joynson (nee Snelson) of Carnforth writes

"Samuel came from Cheshire farming stock and moved to Birkenhead in Cheshire where he had a finger in several 'pies'. He was a painter and decorator and also together with his brother took to housebuilding. I (Vera) have some newspaper cuttings dated 1878 reporting litigation they entered into regarding money claimed by a joiner who worked for them on twelve houses they built at Hoylake in the Wirral[:ITAL]."

In his later years he moved back into farming in North Wales where he died in 1905. Vera has an account from a firm of auctioneers dated August 1905 of the sale of farming stock and effects of the late Mr. Samuel Snelson.
BirthHe was born in 1841 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, I now have the death certificate stating that he was 59 years old in 1905 - making birth date about 1846. However, the 1851 Census says he was 10 years old in the home of his father Thomas Snelson [5], 1891 Census would suggest he was born in 1849. There is a Samuel Snelson registered birth in West derby in March 1848.2

DeathHe died on 3 May 1905, at age ~64, in the "George Temperance Hotel", Clwyd Street, Ruthin, Wales, There is still some doubt surrounding many aspects of the records we have here ... for example, the newspaper cutting about his death name him as "Mr. W.S.[:ITAL] Snelson", cattle dealer. This doesn't seen to stack up to me. However, I am persuaded by the Probate Record which says that Samuel[:ITAL] Snelson of 40 Market Street, Birkenhead died at Ruthin on 3 May 1905.9,8,10
ProbateThe estate of Samuel Snelson was probated on 6 June 1905 in London Samuel Snelson of 40 Market Street Birkenhead died 3 May 1905 in Ruthin Denbighshire Probate 6 June Margaret Snelson Widow 8478 pounds 10 pence reset to 9552 pounds 10 pence.
