May Pauline Busch was born on 5 May 1893 in Denison, TexasG.4,5,6
     She moved to Colorado with her parents before 1900. She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Clear Creek Co., Colorado, G in the household of her parents, Herman C. Busch and Sophie K. Lephart.15
     She moved to DenverG with her parents before 1910. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Denver, Denver Co., Colorado, G in the household of her parents.16
     May married Byron West McNeill, son of Benjamin Franklin McNeill and Marguerite C. West, about 1917. While no actual record of the marriage has been found, they represented themselves as married in city directories and to the census enumerator.7,8,9
     She was a clerk for G. H. Cooper by 1918. A year later she was a telephone operator for the Denver Country Club. By 1920 she had a similar position with Sinclair Refining Co., where she worked until she left Denver.17,18
     May and Byron appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Denver, Denver Co., Colorado, at 51 W Irvington G, enumerated 3 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home.19
     May remarried Byron West McNeill on 6 Aug 1921 in Boulder, Boulder Co., ColoradoG, with Rev. C. A. Rowand officiating. Why they married after having lived as man and wife for several years is unclear. Perhaps they were making official a common-law marriage?3
     Her husband died on 21 Mar 1922 at 223 Bannock St., Denver, ColoradoG.20,21
     May moved to San Leandro, CaliforniaG, by 1923, when she was working as a stenographer for an oil company.10
     May married second Dr. James Gladstone Hepplewhite, son of John W. Hepplewhite and Susan Wilkinson, on 17 Nov 1923 in San Leandro, Alameda Co., CaliforniaG, with Rev. C. S. Zierk, Methodist minister, officiating.10,11
     May and James moved to ChicoG before 1930. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chico, Butte Co., California, at 3744 Nineth St. G, enumerated 11 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $7,500, and owned a radio.22
     May and James took a cruise, departing San Francisco on 9 Aug 1934, and arriving in New York on 25 Aug by way of the Panama Canal.23
     May and James appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Chico, Butte Co., California, at 755 Eastwood G, enumerated 18 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $12,060, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Her parents were listed as living with them, as was Esther Suderman, a 21-year-old housemaid.24
     Her husband died on 25 Jan 1977 in Butte Co., CaliforniaG.25,26
     May died on 29 Aug 1986 in Butte Co., CaliforniaG, at age 93.12,13 She was buried on 5 Sep 1986 in Chico Cemetery, Chico, Butte Co., CaliforniaG.14
