Warren served as a sergeant in company M, 2nd Alabama Volunteer Infantry, during the Spanish-American War. He enlisted 11 May 1898, and was discharged 31 Oct 1898. Company M was made up of Mobile cadets.
18,19 The regiment was initally assigned to the Fourth Army Corps at Mobile. It was then reassigned to the Second Brigade, First Division of Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee’s Seventh Army Corps, and sent to Miami, Florida
