Titled: 11th President of the United States (James Polk) on 4 March 1845.
President James Knox Polk was born on 2 November 1795 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.1 He was the son of Samuel Polk and Jane Knox.1 President James Knox Polk married Sarah Childress on 1 January 1824 in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee.1 President James Knox Polk died on 15 June 1849 in Nashville, Tennessee, at age 53.1 He was buried on 16 June 1849 in Nashville, Tennessee.1
James Knox's father Samuel Polk died in 1827.1 Was elected over Henry Clay by a popular vote of 1,338,464 to 1,300,097 and an electoral vote of 170 to 105. George M. Dallas served as his vice-president. Occasionally called 'Little Hickory'. During his presidency the USA grew by 800,000 square miles, including California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas; the boundaries between Canada and the USA were set where they are today. Polk did not seek a second term and, worn out from his hard work, died three months after leaving office.1 President James Knox Polk became President of the United States on 4 March 1845 replacing President John Tyler. President James Knox Polk was over Vice President Geoge M. Dallas as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1845.
President James Knox Polk was replaced as President of the United States by President Zachary Taylor on 4 March 1849.
