He began working at Boteler & Son, the grocery/general store begun by his father and brother Clifford in Beltsville, shortly after its opening in 1929.6,7 He managed the store during World War II when Clifford was serving in the Army3, and became part-owner with Clifford after his father's death in 1963.6 After Clifford's death in 1980, he and Clifford's son Clifford Jr. continued to run the store until it was closed in 2006.6

She graduated in 1945 from Oakland High School in Oakland, Garrett Co., Maryland,3 and at the time of her first marriage in 1946 was working as a secretary for the Dept. of Agriculture in Beltsville, Prince George's Co., Maryland.1 She later worked for more than 15 years as a secretary at the University of Maryland in College Park, Prince George's Co.3
She and her first husband Clifford are listed in Vansville, Prince George's Co., in the 1950 census, along with their son Clifford Jr., and a lodger, John Kraulik.7

In 1930 he and his wife Euphrasie were living with her parents in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.10 From at least 1935 to 1940 he lived as a lodger with the widow Haydee M. Ratigan and her family in New Orleans.4 And in 1950 he was living on his own in New Orleans.5 He worked for the Sewerage & Water Board in New Orleans as a timekeeper, and later as a payroll clerk, and was paymaster at the time of his death.10,4,5,7
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting in New Orleans as a private on 1 October 1942.11 (His death certificate erroneously says he was a veteran of World War I.)7
