FIRE VICTIM DIES
Nellie Riley (sic), fourteen-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Riley (sic), of Asquith, died in City Hospital shortly after noon today as the result of terrible burns sustained when her clothes caught fire folowing (sic) an explosion caused by pouring coal oil on a fire. Another companion who was also burned in the explosion is making good progress.2

     The following account of the funeral of Nellie Reilly appeared in the Asquith, Saskatchewan 5 October 1930 :
EXPLOSION VICTIM IS LAID TO REST
Nellie Riley, 14, of Asquith, Who Succumbed to Terrible Burns, Is Buried ASQUITH.--The funeral of Nellie Riley, 14-years-old fire victim of Asquith, who passed away on Friday, Oct. S, at the City Hospital, Saskatoon, took place on Sunday, from the Asquith United Church. Rev. H. J. Sangwine, of Asquith and Kinley, conducted the service and the United Church junior choir sang "God Will Take Care of You." The church was filled to capacity and about 100 late comers were compelled to find standing room In the vestibule and outside, testifying to the extreme sorrow which is felt throughout the community for her demise. The deceased was well loved among her school companions and all her associates and leaves father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Riley, of Asquith, and one sister, Marie. The pallbearers were Ira Ashdown, Nordwell Laventure, Bruce Baldwin, Russell Mather, Jack Mather, and Hilton Laventure. Beautiful floral tributes were sent by the following: Martha and Birdie, Saskatoon ; Asquith school chums, rooms 3 and 4; Grasby school pals; Mrs. Page and family; Mr. and Mrs. Waters and family; Laura Secord Chapter of the I.O.D.E; Mr. and Mrs. H. Linen Milt Receives Broken Leg And Bruises in Fall Under Grain Wagon
ASQUITH.--
Linen Milt, 68-year-old farmer of the Asquith district, was the victim of a serious accident on Tuesday when he sustained a broken leg and severe bruises after Jumping from a grain wagon which he was driving Mr. Milt, who was feeling the intense cold, decided when within about a mile of town to walk the rest of the way in an endeavor to get warm, and jumped from the slowly moving wagon, missed his footing and fell under the wagon. Both wheels passed over his left leg breaking the bone just below the knee. His son-in-law, Norman Wheeler, and Philip Cattell who were close behind and also driving grain wagons, hurried to his assistance but found him in no condition to be moved. Aid and a car were hastily summoned from town and Mr. Milt was removed to the home of A. E. Buck where he to now progressing favorably. Dr. H. C. Whitemarsh Is in attendance.1
