The following obituary appeared Hutchinson News Weekly published in Hutchinson, Kansas 15 November 1888:
Abraham Schamp was born July 20, 1814, and died at his home in Reno County, Kansas, October 30, 1888, aged 74 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was married to Mary Ann Hopkins April 27, 1837. United with the M.E. church about 1835, of which he has ever since been a consistent member.
He leaves 7 children, near relatives and many friends to mourn his loss. For some time he has been troubled with heart disease, the supposed cause of his death.
He was found dead at the well near the barn. Mr. Schamp leaves no dying testimony, but he has frequently expressed himself as having his eternal interests committed into the hands of his Savior.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.E. Davis at Highland school house.2
He leaves 7 children, near relatives and many friends to mourn his loss. For some time he has been troubled with heart disease, the supposed cause of his death.
