He died on 31 July 1964 at Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada, near Pembroke on highway 17.1,2
The following newspaper article appeared in the Ottawa, Ontario Ottawa Journal 1 August 1964 :
Two district men were killed on Highway 17 near here late Friday night and two others were injured in a head-on crash that welded two vehicles together.
Dead are Melvon (sic) Laflair, 29, of Albert Street, Petawawa, a taxi driver and Frank Gal, 42, of 502 Alfred Street, Pembroke, a tailor. They were the drivers...
Police said the cars - one driven east by Gal and the other west by Laflair - met almost head-on on MacGregor's Bay Hill, five miles west of Pembroke at 11.30 p.m.
The road had recently been paved but a centre white line was not yet painted in.
Police said the two cars crashed with such violence that they had to use crowbars to pry them apart to free the victims.
County coroner, Dr. Gordon Hermitte of Pembroke, pronounced the two men dead at the scene. Kiss was a passenger in the Gal car and Brunton, a passenger in the Laflair car.2
