     He was born on 25 August 1621 at Poitiers, Poitou, France.4 Rene married Madeleine Ranger on 7 August 1645 at St. Jean De Montierneuf, Poitiers, Poitou, France.1,4 Rene married Marguerite Delorme on 1 October 1669 at Québec, Québec, New France (Canada), She received a 450 pound dowry as one of the "fille du roi" that signed contracts to travel to New France to marry and help populate the colony.5,6 Rene married Louise Nepple on 31 March 1679 at Cap De Madeleine, Champlain, Québec, New France (Canada), date of marriage contract.7,8
     He died on 5 August 1689 at Lachine, l'Île de Montréal, New France (Canada), at age 67, killed along with his 3rd wife (who may have been captured), two children and one 15 year old slave, Louis, during an attack by about 1,500 Iroquois warriors. Some victims were tortured and mutilated.9,10      Rene Chartier was buried circa 28 October 1694.4
     He immigrated on 25 September 1667 to Québec, Québec, New France (Canada), from France on board the "St. Louis."2
