NO PROBE INTO DROWNING OF W. R. MOFFAT
Coroner Mitchell Believes No Inquest Necessary Into Death of Regina Man
No inquest will be held into the death of Walter R. Moffatt (sic), 2207 Retallack street, who is believed to have taken his own life on Wednesday afternoon by lowering himself into a seven-foot cistern in the basement of his home, according to Coroner H. H. Mitchell. M.D. Mr. Moffat has been in failing health for the past year.

By means of a rough stepladder, police say. he apparently climbed into the cistern through the 18-inch apace between the top of the cistern and the floor of the house. From the position of the body when found, he must have lowered himself in feet first.

Police Find Body
When found by Inspector McDougall and Sergeant McPhee, of the city police, the body was fully clothed except for a coat and vest, which were lying beside the tank. The head was about six inches below the surface of the water, which came to within about nine inches of the top of the tank. The cistern was about seven feet high and five feet in diameter and was located in the southeast corner of the basement of the house.

The first report of the tragedy was received by Dr. R. R. Rogers, who was culled on the phone by Rev. A. D. MacKenzie. a neighbor to the Moffat heme, about 3.25 o'clock in the afternoon. On the doctor's arrival at the Moffat house he found no one home, hut crossing the street to MacKenzie's, he discovered Mrs. Moffat in a hysterical condition. All she could say was, "the tank."

The city police were notified and Dr. Mitchell, coroner, was called and ordered the body removed to Speers' funeral home.

Left No Word
Dr. Rogers has been the family doctor for the past year and, according to him. Mr. Moffat was in very poor health, suffering from severe heart and nervous troubles. He had been to the Pacific coast this summer in the hope ot getting relief. He was about 54 (sic) years of age.

So far as is known, he left no note or communication of any kind.32
