The Beelers lived near Edinburg for perhaps 20 years before most, if not all, of them moved on to Sullivan County, TN. John Valentine Beeler migrated to Grainger County about 1797 as did several of his children. His brothers Jacob, Joseph and Ulrich stayed in Sullivan County where all three died. Biography

Joseph Beeler was born in 1744 in York, Pennsylvania.3

Joseph Beeler died on 14 August 1833 in Sullivan County, Tennessee, at age ~89.3

Notes for Joseph BEELER:
See Tennessee Ancestors, Vol 10 (3) December 1994, article titled JOSEPH BEELER AT KING'S MOUNTAIN.
This account of Joseph Beeler is what I had originally included in my notes from applications to the First Families of Tennessee by members of the Beeler family. Another more document account is included further in the notes for Joseph Beeler son of John Beeler from Mark Asbell
Joseph Beeler and his younger brother, Peter Beeler came to the country which is now East Tennessee about 1790 --- I mean, to that which is now Wasburn and Liberty Hill communities. They were, "Tillers of the sol," they were also endowed with great creative ability. They made the hoes, shovels, horseshoes, nails, in fact, they made all the necessary farming material of that day. They were ten tallented people. They could do or make anythign. Moreover they were men of unimpeachable charter. They were devout men. They were ten tallented people. During their stop over of a few years in what is now Sullivan County, Joseph who was older than his brother, Peter Beeler, married his neighbor Katy Petree. Peter Beeler then married Katy's sister, Barbara Petree. It seemsd as though Williams Creek surroundings were fascinating to them. Joseph built a huge log house in the south west end of what is now known as Dutch Valley. It was near the bank of Williams Creek and near to where Beeler's Chaple Methodist Church is now located.
Joseph was sorely grieved to lose Katy by death, but we find that on Ocotber 21, 1834 he married Ann Parker. Their only son was Daniel Beeler who was the father of the Dutch Valley and Hines Ridge Beelers.
In Shelby's Pamphlet regarding the surrender at Kings Mt. Jacob Bealer states that he was in Capt. Pembertons company in the Battle of Kings Mountain and amongst the very first at the place of surrender. The commander asked for our General, and gave his sword first to Maj. Evan Shelby, who kept it until Col. Campbell came up, which was twenty minutes, and I think longer, afterwards. From the discourse which I heard between Col. Shelby and the British officers I know that Campbell was not there, and that it was that length of time before he came up. Joseph Bealer certifies, that I was at the surrender with my brother Jacob Bealer at his side, and saw and heard what he has stated in the above certificate, and know them to be true.
I deeply and sincerely regret the necessity that has been cast upon me of discussing, in defence of my own character, a subject so delicate and so invidious. It is a controversy that I have not sought; it is one that I would have avoided, if any alternative had been left me. My letters to Col. Sevier were written in all the confidence of a private correspondence with an old friend. I question not the motives that influenced his son to publish them after the death of his father. But certainly it was an event altogether unexpected by me. (Shelby.)

Joseph, who was the son of John Beeler [???], fought in the Battle of Kings Mt. After the war was over, they [brothers John, Peter & Joseph???] set out through the wilderness, until they came in sight of the place which is now Washburn, TN. They procured land and built their home on the south bank of Williams Creek. Joseph was the founder of Beeler's Chapel Church which was built of logs on top of Hines Ridge. He is buried in the cemetery on the hill in front of the old home place. A handsome DAR marker stands at his head, with the Words Joseph Beeler.
