LAURA E. LANCASTER
Laura E. Lancaster, Ann Arbor, MI. Died suddenly at home on Friday morning, January 30 [2009]. Laura was born April 27, 1968 in Enid Oklahoma while her father, Blake, was in pilot training at Vance AFB. She and her mother Sue moved frequently for the first five years of her life, residing in Texas, Florida, Minnesota, and Mt. Clemens, Michigan before settling in Brighton. Laura graduated from Brighton High ('86) and from the University of Michigan with a BA in Communications. While at school in Ann Arbor she lived in the North Campus Co-op and ultimately stayed on there until fall of 2004. She enjoyed the intercultural interaction and made many, many friends during her 17 years at the co-op. She has kept in touch with most of them. She worked at the Hands on Museum as a guide for several years. Later she worked as a technician at Heartland Rehabilitation. Recently she had been volunteering at NAMI of Washtenaw, The Red Cross, and the English as a second language program at U of M's student housing. She will be remembered as a loyal friend, loving daughter, and caring sister. Laura is survived by her parents, Blake and Sue Lancaster; brother and sister-in-law, Blake Mark and Jodi Lancaster; and grandfather, Glenn Post. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Laura E. Lancaster Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Brighton Commerce Bank, 8700 North Second St., Brighton, MI 48116. Nelson was born on 22 August 1922 in Breckenridge, Wilkin County, Minnesota. He married Ann Louise Carmody on 2 January 1944 in Clinton, Custer County, Oklahoma.

Nelson McArthur Lancaster died on 8 May 1945 at age 22. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG), United States Navy Reserve (USNR), in World War Two. While serving as a Naval Aviator with Patrol Bombing Squadron One Hundred Fifty Three (VPB-153) undergoing training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kaneohe HI he perished when he PV-2 Harpoon patrol bomber he was flying crashed into the Pacific Ocean off Oahu while on a night training flight. His body was never recovered. He is listed on a memorial to men lost at sea in the Punch Bowl Military Cemetery near Honolulu, Hawaii. There is another memorial for him at Manasota Memorial Park, Brdenton, FL. There is a memorial for him in Manasota Memorial Park, Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida, which reads:
Lt. Nelson M. Lancaster
Died near Oahu, T.H.V.B 153
Dear one, rest in the West.
Sable night, lull the day to her breast.
Sweet, good night.
Now, away to rest.1
Nelson McArthur Lancaster appeared on the census of 1925 in the household of Blake McKenzie Lancaster, M.D., and Inger Marie Lancaster in Wahpeton, Richland County, North Dakota, which lists Blake Lancaster, 44, his wife Inger Lancaster, 29, their sons Blake, Jr., 4, Nelson, 2, and daughter Dorothy, 4 months. They were apparently living with Inger's parents, Nils and Dortea Simonsen. [North Dakota State Census, 1925]. Nelson McArthur Lancaster appeared on the census of 1930 in the household of Blake McKenzie Lancaster, M.D., and Inger Marie Lancaster in Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida, which listed Blake Lancaster, 48, born in Ontario, Canada, came to USA in 1898; his wife Inger, 36, born in Denmark; their children (all born in Minnesota) Blake, 9, Nelson, 7, and Dorothy, 5; and Blake's brother David Lancaster, 67, born in Ontario, Canada, came to USA in 1927.2

He was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in World War II.1

Ann Carmody Parsons

MURRELLS INLET Ann Carmody Parsons , passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 28, 2005.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Francis Joseph Carmody, writer and drama critic for the Evening Star newspaper and Beata Himeman Carmody of East Aurora, New York. She grew up in Somerset, Md., attending the Maurais School, Cathedral and Stuart Hall.

She was widowed by navy pilot, Nelson Kenton [sic, McArthur] Lancaster, who died in service at the end of World War II. They had one son, Nelson Kenton Lancaster Jr.??? In 1949, she married James Arthur Parsons of Washington, D.C. with whom she had two children, Geoffrey and Elizabeth. Mr. Parsons was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the late 1930's and an attorney. They lived in Pittsburgh, and Roanoke, Va., until they retired and moved to Murrells Inlet. Mr. Parsons died in 1987.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and was very active in the Pittsburgh and Roanoke communities. She wrote an unpublished book and several essays, enjoyed oil painting, and held a patent on an original gift-wrapping storage box that has been copied and is sold worldwide today. She had been an avid golfer, loved entertaining and was an inventive, accomplished cook. She loved sports and particularly loved football season.

She was a vital, significant participant in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was wonderful company, had a sharp wit and intellect, and had an excellent sense of humor. Her strength and ability to find the good in everything was an inspiration and tonic to so many that knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her two sons, Nelson ``Chip'' Parsons and Geoffrey J. Parsons of Murrells Inlet; one daughter, Elizabeth ``Betsy'' Fletcher of Conway, and three grandchildren, Jenna, Lucas, and Christian, all of Conway.

Her Social Security Number was 262-56-5595, issued in 1955 in Florida.1 At one time, Dot and Chuck Smith lived in her family home at 16 High Street, Manatee, Florida. Later they moved to Indiana. According to the Social Security Death Index, Dorothy's last residence was in Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana.1
