| Anecdote | Nicholas Byram, according to family tradition, was the son of an English Gentleman of some prominence, William H. Byram and his wife, Mary, of the County of Kent who removed to Ireland about the time his son ws born in 1610. The father sent him ast the age of sixteen to visit his friends in England in charge of a man who betrayed his trust, robbed him of his money, and took him to the West Indies, supposed to have been Barbados, where he was sold to service to pay his passage, and when his term expired he made his way to New England in 1933 or 1634 and settled at Weymouth. He married Susanne, daughter of Abraham Shaw of Dedham about 1635. In 1660 he bought three proprietary or original purchase rights in Bridgewater and settled there soon after. He died in 1688. |
