USN Ret. Brian Houghton 1941 - 2018 Dec. 2, 1941 - Aug. 24, 2018 Brian Houghton was born in Manchester, England to parents Stanley and Edna Houghton. The family moved to Louisville, KY when Brian was 18 yrs old and he joined the US Navy. He served 4 yrs. active duty, then settled in Long Beach, CA where he married Vivian Almarine Hawker. In addition to his Navy Reserve duties, Brian worked for GTE and Verizon for 40 yrs, finally retiring to a life of golf with his Navy buddies. Brian passed away in the Long Beach VA hospital, of mesothelioma. Brian was preceded in death by his wife Almarine, sister Irene, grandson Aaron, and his pet cat Frank. He is survived by Almarine's children: Michael Stafford, Bryan and Steve Smith, and Laurie McGuire; brother Stanley Houghton, and nieces and nephews: Gina Hartson, Lorraine Houghton, Alison Schumacher, Stan Houghton, Susan Effinger, April Kaiser, Beverly Edwards, Brian Kaiser; and their families. Brian's ashes will be scattered at sea on Oct. 13th. Published in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on Oct. 12, 2018

Veteran Of Blue KNOXVILLE, Feb. 17. Glenn Stubley, 66_f owner of Knoxville printing company, founded in 1905, died yesterday at St. Mary's hospital. He had suffered a heart attack on February 9th. Born in Lincolnshire, England, he came to Knoxville in child hood. His father, Robinson Stubley, was a pioneer in the printing business here. The deceased man was a member of St. John’s Episcopal church and former vestryman. For hobbies, he enjoyed golf and traveling. Last summer he toured England and Scotland by automobile accompanied by his daughter, Carolyn. In addition to his widow, informer Miss Glenna Houghton, he is survived by one son, Robinson, a business asociate, and seven daughters. The girls are widely known in Knoxville for their unusual beauty. Four attended Univ. of TN
